5 contributions to Default Carer - Ageing Parents
Carers and Ducks 🦆
As a Carer myself of ageing parents, I am trying to find time and space for me. One thing I am making an effort to do is to go for a walk outside as much as I can. On my walk this morning I was delighted to see a new Duck family in my suburb 🦆🐤 I think that when you are so exhausted and overwhelmed with carer responsibilities you forget to look for, pause and enjoy the little things in life. I’m glad I didn’t miss this one today 🙏💕 What little things in life do you see or enjoy when you are spending time with you? 😊

They’re adorable Jocelyn!! I also live in a semi rural area. I enjoy feeding my family of magpies each day. The babies have left the nest and are part of the feeding pack now. Every visit we have up to 6 magpies and the parents sing to get my attention. I can also whistle like a magpie ( my hidden talent) 🤣
Your Daily Holiday - Suitcase Not Required
Carers often go for years without a real holiday 🌍🛫🧭 I know I have — nothing longer than two nights in the last three years, and I haven’t been overseas in seven. When caring becomes your everyday life, long breaks simply are not always possible. But small ones can be........ I have started taking what I call a daily holiday — a tiny moment where I step out of the constant responsibility and into myself. It’s not about leaving home. It’s about leaving the mental load for a minute. Your daily holiday might be a quiet walk, a cup of tea outside, a few deep breaths, journaling, stretching, or simply standing in the garden noticing one single thing. The activity doesn’t matter — the intention does. Other ideas for a daily holiday could be: - something you do alone - something that brings you into the present moment - something without your phone, or any screen time - something done in silence These small pauses won’t replace a real holiday, but they help us keep going until the day we finally can 🏝️🏖️🌅🌃 Your daily holiday doesn’t need a suitcase — just a quiet minute that belongs to you. Do you have a daily holiday - I would love to know - share if you like in the comments ⬇️

I love this Jocelyn! Mine is ten minutes in the garden before anyone needs anything from me. I just watch the sun rise and start moving my body, swinging and stretching my arms and legs, and giving thanks for a new day. That’s enough to feel like myself again before the day starts. Thank you for this. I'm going to stop treating those ten minutes as something I sneak in.
Friday Night Fun - Something Different - Guess the Flower 🌸
I spotted this stunning flower on my walk early this morning. Located in Lake Macquarie, NSW. What do you think it is? 🤔🌸🏵️

Oh, I wish I wasn’t the first to respond because I know the answer to this one 😀 …, they are double hippeastrum flowers/bulbs. You must have had some warm weather because they’re a little early. I grow these but they don’t look this nice!!
Morning Relaxation
Even in the busiest moments of caring, there are places and people, that help you breathe again. Every Wednesday morning at 6.30am I attend A Conscious Breath - a one hour Breathwork session with Meditation and Sound Bowl Healing by the lake. This is my one hour - for me. I often follow with a 30 minute walk along the lake. What does your “one hour” look like - share in the comments below 🕊️🌺

I spend it with my eldest daughter. Most mornings we drive to a beautiful leafy suburb, have a coffee and walk and talk for almost an hour. We admire the tall gum trees, chat to the neighbours and pat all the dogs along the way. It’s our time and it’s a lovely way to connect - no stress!!
A little update from behind the scenes.... 👋
You have joined right at the very beginning, and I want you to know exactly what is happening here 😊 I am currently building out - "Finding Solid Ground as a Carer" — a full 1:1 coaching program that walks you through everything I wish someone had handed me three years ago. Six sessions, each with its own practical tool, covering everything from spotting the early signs, to navigating My Aged Care, Centrelink and Financial requirements in care options, to knowing when home is no longer the safest option, and obtaining medical assistance. It is still a work in progress, but the information and structure are coming together, and I am genuinely excited about what this is becoming. All while I continue to navigate this system myself for my parents. Their needs are constantly changing and with that, I am still on the Carer journey. This is why I feel that I have so much lived experience to offer you - to help you find your way through the Ageing Parents maze. Thank you for being here this early. You are not just watching this build — you are part of why I am building it. More to come soon. 🌿

What a beautiful thing to be building, Jocelyn. Six sessions covering all of that — the early signs, the Centrelink maze, knowing when home isn’t safe anymore — that’s exactly the kind of practical guidance so many carers are desperate for and can’t find anywhere else. The fact that you’re still walking this path with your own parents while creating this for others says everything about you and the care and knowledge you will bring to your coaching program. Thank you for bringing us in this early — genuinely excited to watch this take shape. 🌿🥰
