AI agents are here but where are they best used
In the last couple of months AI players have been releasing their version of what a true agent style interface looks like. Grok Bot, Muse, Dots, Hermes and soon Duet from Anthropic. I went into more details in the video on how each perform and which one will be best for who. My main point is also that these are great for their running around tasks like picking up items that are coming up due in registers, reminders on tasks you promised in a meeting and that ad-hoc admin tasks. Work like extracting trade packages, reviewing contracts and line item pricing all still belong using skills in Claude Cowork or ChatGPT Work. You want reliable results where you know what the AI has done so you can review the output before carrying on. I'm interested in how you all are using these agents and whether it has changed much for the way you work?

@Marc Copson would using a VPN get you around those restrictions?
What sucks about construction?
For me, it’s poorly prepared bid packages. You get sent hundreds of documents that all say different things. Then you spend 10 hours going through them to work out what the client wants. Unfortunately AI is making it even easier to produce hundreds of pages of junk for someone else to read. What’s yours? What part of working in construction do you wish someone would sort out? I’ve been working on a new product. And yes, this is one of those annoying product research surveys where I ask what your problems are and how I can help. If you’ve got five minutes, I’d really appreciate you filling it out. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdILOUFSeoYJRJOfY5g5BHnI8ZLPHcfZhiL78nOE0AFOpRdTQ/viewform?usp=header

Feels like every industry has some form of annoying data processing that no one wants to deal with and they pass it off to AI to summarize 😂

@Tim Fairley oh I know they'll use AI to understand the messy documents But in all seriousness, if someone can't understand the messy document at the end of the day, probably not a good document imo
CAD exported PDFs vs Scanned PDFs
I have observed that the understanding of drawing quality by the General LLM models differs for CAD exported drawings vs Scanned drawings. CAD exported drawings capture models are able to capture the lines and curve objects. Were as Scanned PDFs it's just one image. Is there any other open source model which reads scanned PDFs better than the generic models like gemini or claude opus ? The constraint I see with any generic multi model LLMs os downsample to smaller size and model never sees the pixel.

Wondering if you could import the CAD model into the LLM itself. I typically use Blender and only had access to CAD like designs via Rhino a few years back
Newbie here — learning estimating and AI
Hi everyone, I’m Chev 👋 Im based in Perth WA. My background is in mining and graphic design, so I’m coming into this with no construction experience. My brother’s an estimator, and hearing about the challenges in his role has sparked my interest. I love AI and exploring how it can help solve practical problems, which is what brought me here. Long term, I’d love to build the skills to become an estimator and potentially start my own remote estimating business, if that’s even a thing? I’ve already consumed alot of your content on Youtube and found it really useful and interesting. Is this community the right place to build the knowledge I’d need to get into the industry? Would upgrading to your other offering be the next step, or are there other qualifications or hands-on experience I should work towards as well? Appreciate any advice on where to go from here!

What kind of systems have you thought about for AI usage inside of estimating?

@Chev Paea I'm still figuring that stuff out myself honestly. I have the technical knowledge, but am still learning about the industry
Hello Everyone!
Hello Everyone! I’ve joined this community to learn practical construction management techniques, exchange experiences, explore innovative technologies, and connect with professionals worldwide. I look forward to learning from you all and sharing insights from my work in Rwanda.

Welcome! I'm with Jem, interested in knowing how things differ in Rwanda when it comes to construction. Guessing you're typically doing government jobs since you're building highways?
