Anybody get out today? Weather has been shocking in Girona today. Flying back to Ireland in this evening. Anybody who had text me for calls for tomorrow : Let me know what times you’re free. I should be free all day. Update : landed in Ireland now and the weather is indeed better

Weather fairly bad in Ireland today but tomorrow is to be good for riding. Went for an 1h 1/2 z2 this morning on trainer, on a rest week this week so lower volume. Hoping to get out on the gravel bike tomorrow for the long spin šŸ‘

What's the ONE thing you want to nail this week?
Any goals for the week? My main goal for the week is to learn about vagus nerve stimulation and suss that out a bit. I want to try one out and see if there’s any benefit for me. But I’m completely new to the topic so I’m aiming to have reached a conclusion by the end of the week about which brand to get etc. Leaning towards the Neurosym ear device currently. I don’t think that there would be anything in this as a cycling recovery tool but it does seem to be interesting from a health perspective in terms of helping the parasympathetic nervous system which has an array of benefits. Reducing depression/anxiety, stress, stomach issues, sleep quality etc. Also some HRV benefits. So maybe it would help the bike to be fair! What are you aiming to achieve this week!? (Also breaking news - Reuben Amorim sacked by Manchester United - replaced by Darren Fletcher as interim. There may be some unhappy people in the chat today)

@Matthew Devins the Hexis app has helped me a lot , planning the food a day in advance . 20 mins after work and I have the evening meal done, lunch made for the the next day and overnight oats made for breakfast.

@Sarah Egan definitely eating more pasta and rice than I normally would for dinner, I was probably consuming more protein before than I needed. Chocolate and lattes have been cut out on the days I’m not doing a big session on the bike . The overnight oats with fruit and peanut butter is a great one because I can adjust the quantity’s for Hexis recommendation. I would normally be very bad with chocolate and sweets but the planning the night before has helped that
End of 2025/Reflecting
So I feel like now all I’m seeing on my phone is recaps of people’s years and how good everything has been going. I hope that you’ve had a good one and things have been going well! I read in some of the introductory posts that there’s people here that have overcome cancer and some other pretty major health issues (cannot remember everything exactly but definitely seen people come through some serious stuff which is unreal). Personally had a pretty disappointing year again (lol) with how my health has turned out and the issues that’s caused. I’m not wanting to start moaning here but just for anybody that can relate to it or can take something from it. I know that this is just how social media works and it is what it is with people not sharing negative stuff. But yeah if anybody wants to share anything in this thread then I think that would be cool. I know that people are really encouraging each other within this community and everything I’ve seen has been really positive but if there are negative things then feel free to throw them in here. Reflecting on the year and all that like we do. Personally since I was young my main goal has always been to be happy in life but with how unwell I’ve been feeling a lot of the time over the last years I’m trying to shift the goal to finding peace in myself. That’s my current thinking anyways towards it all. If anybody wants to add anything then feel free sure!

Hi Matthew you will become stronger from this adversity . Sometimes life throws challenges at us . Last year i didn’t start great for me I had noticed a lump on manhood in late summer of 24 and thought nothing of it before going to the gp in November. I met with a consultant in January of last year and went for a biopsy and I was told on the 27th of February ( believe it or not my birthday) the result , squamous cell carcinoma. I was very upset at the time when I was dealing with this , I wasn’t sleeping, was worried sick . This rare form of penile cancer which only affects 60 men in Ireland a year, a lot less common than testicular cancer .I had to get staged then with ct & pet scan and waiting for consultant appointments and results I was very low as you can imagine. I was referred to Beaumont to a consultant and I had my operation in the last week of march. I got excellent result I just had to have a circumcision done . No radiation or chemotherapy needed and I didn’t have to get my limph nodes in my groin desected. Consultant staged it at stage 1a . I was incredibly lucky looking back on this that I eventually acted on this and took the step to go to the gp. I have to be checked now for the next 2 years but so far so good on all the scans. The bike was a great stress reliever and motivation for me during this period and I competed in our inter club league after and had a great year on the bike. Life definitely gave you a challenge with the crash you had Matthew , the body is a complex thing , I wish you all the best with your recovery , no doubt your mental resilience from such a success on the bike will stand to you.
