Insurance
I’m curious how much you guys spend and where to look for insurance for this type of work? Do I need to set up and LLC or DBA? Also I’m curious if car lots ask for this type of info when trying to get work from them?

Hey Greg, an option of insurance for headlight restoration would be to get Car Detailing insurance. Depending on what provider you choose, its pretty inexpensive for the most part. The legitimate way to setup and establish your business alongside getting insurance would be to register it as an LLC with state filing. Probably Trademarking your business entity in the process, and making sure your filing taxes as the LLC with the according tax forms. As far as dealers go weather they ask for certain info depends on the class of dealer in question I’ve learned. Smaller town local dealers may not ask for anything at all, while bigger lots and dealers may ask for insurance to keep them covered. It’s obviously not required to have either of these when working with dealers, but having insurance and an acknowledged business structure would help prove ur legitimacy as a business for sure. But the main things when doing headlight restoration, is just going out there and getting experience. None of these things are needed to start making 💸. Restoring headlights carries little risk in damaging anything, especially when done properly, so I wouldn’t worry about insurance or legal structure when just starting out. Good question though Greg, hopefully I provided at least a little insight.
Clear Coat?
What is the difference between spray on clear coat vs wipe on clear coat? And what are brands/products you would recommend for clear coat?

What’s up Connor, what I’ve learned is the difference between the two is spray on clear coats usually last longer, and give a more smoother uniform finish. - Good Spray on clears are All Clear by EAS Products - SMR 700A by speedokote - Headlight 2k Clear - Maeguires Keep Clear (this one last only about 12 months or so) While the wipe on clears are quick and effective but the length of UV protection is shorter, and will sometimes leave a streaky like finish if not applied correctly… - Good wipe on clears would be headlight magic and cerekote wipes. - 3M Clear Coat Wipes are solid. One of the main reasons for using most spray on clears would be to offer lifetime warranty because they last longer. If your just starting out the Headlight Magic system works just as good, and then you can get into spray clears and ceramic options if needed. For me when I wanted to add a lifetime warranty option as a second tier restoration service, I got the All Clear by easproducts.com. And then I also got McKees37 Headlight Graphene Ceramic Coating, so I can expand my service to even new headlights as a preventive option.
Pricing
GM Im sure this is something everyone has had or currently has on their mind. Im having a mental tug of war with pricing. I have done the research on the average cost for headlight restoration in my area ($99 +/-) However Im struggling with starting point as well as pricing difference for vehicles since not every headlight size is the same. Does anyone have a pricing structure they are willing to share that would give me an idea on how to structure mine? Of course we are from different parts of the of the US and pricing will be different, but its just the structure on it that Id like to see.

What’s up Nandy, yeah when I started out I struggled with it too, cus the city I live in isn’t Silicon Valley let’s just say lol. For a reference, my RETAIL pricing structure for two headlights is as follows: - All JDM models… including Lexus are easier to do so you wanna price them knowing most times they are easy. Mine start at $70-$90. - GM models… including dodge are doable just take a little more sanding in most cases, so anywhere upwards of $120 is solid. - EU/Luxury/Exotic models… I’ve only done corvettes, Mercades and BMW but you wanna charge a premium price generally for these because it’s a premium car & most times the OEM clearcoat is really hard to get off with these models generally. (Generally $150-$350). This is just my general pricing, it varies obviously on different factors but that’s the gist. Hope it helps.

@Nandy Rodriguez of course brotha! And if you have a longer lasting spray on clear or ceramic coating to offer the lifetime warranty. I would charge an add on of $50. That’s just what I charge for lifetime warranty, I know others probably charge more but it’s a cheat code like Andrew’s video says.
Emblem Restoration
Someone on nextdoor asked me if I can restore the center emblem on their 2017 Toyota Rav 4. Does anyone have experience doing emblem restorations? Is the process similar to the headlight restoration. What should I charge on something like this? He doesn't want the headlights, just the emblem. Thanks!

Hey Christopher, sorry if this reply is too late, but emblem restorations are generally the same exact process of using headlight magic. You wanna make sure not to sand the chrome or surface around the emblem since it’s smaller. If it were me I would charge anywhere between $50-$80 just for the emblem… but that’s me, price whatever u like.

No it shouldnt affect the proximity scanner. Should be good man, looks like an easy job 👍 Make sure not to sand the trim or chrome around it, might wanna use tape to mask it off, just a suggestion.
New guy here
Hey everyone I’m brand new here and super excited. I’m in the New Orleans area and have a kit on the way. One thing that seems like it maybe a hurdle is I don’t know anyone here in town so posting on Facebook won’t do much for me but I’m going to try the Nextdoor route and see what happens. If you have any other ideas on getting customers please reach out and let me know thanks

Hey Greg, one out of many ways to reach people is to reach out to social media pages that are about everything in the city you live in. Most times they will run promos and it’s a good way to target your hometown. For example there could be an Instagram page called “AllThingsDallas” and they might have a good following and everyone in Dallas will see their posts or promos. Just one way 👍
