Want to Master the Art of Cold Emails? Here’s the Ultimate Guide for Actors
Hey acting peeps, For those who didn't attend the zoom session last night we had Christine Solomon with us who's experience in the acting world is immense. She kindly allowed me to share with you about best way to send a cold emails and why most actors get them wrong, so here goes: You know you should be reaching out to casting directors, agents, producers, and industry decision-makers. But every time you sit down to write that email, doubt creeps in. What do I even say? Will they think I’m annoying? What if they don’t respond? Here’s the hard truth: cold emails work—when done correctly. Many actors miss out on opportunities simply because they don’t know how to craft a professional, compelling, and confident message. The good news? Industry pros actually want to discover new talent, sign actors, and fill roles. Your job is to show them—quickly and effectively—why they should pay attention to you. Today, I’m breaking down the exact structure of a winning cold email, including examples that reflect how top-tier actors communicate—confident, direct, and positioning themselves as valuable assets. The Anatomy of a High-Impact Cold Email Every strong cold email follows this structure: 1. Subject Line: The Make-or-Break Moment Your subject line determines whether your email gets opened or ignored. It must be direct, intriguing, and professional. ❌ Bad subject lines: - “Hi, I’m an actor looking for representation” - “Seeking opportunities in film/TV” - “Hope you’re doing well” ✅ Winning subject lines: - “Talented Actor with Recent Lead Role in [Notable Project]” - “Rising Actor in [Genre/Market] | Interested in Meeting” - “Re: Upcoming Project Inquiry – [Your Name]” When to send? Wednesdays. Industry professionals are most likely to check and respond mid-week. 2. Opening Line: Hook Them Immediately Skip the small talk. No “I hope you’re doing well”—just get to the point. ✅ Example Opening for an Agent: “I’m reaching out because I’m looking to align with strong representation that understands my career trajectory. I recently wrapped [Project Name] and am now focused on [specific career direction].”

Thank you Guy and Christine!
Asking for advice (re particular role)
There is a small role for me to consider for YouTube series in podcast comedy/satire style. I would love to hear advice on weather it can be damaging for the career to accept a role in underwear for the YouTube? The scene is a "naughty teacher" fantasy to embarrass the host for the comedic effect. I would be needed for 2h max and they offer flat fee only that is not very high. The channel is new and has just under 500 subscribers. Thank you in advance.

@Sonam Bathija Hey Sonam thank you for sharing your view! I decided not to go with it. Even though slightly uncomfortable topic, I thought sharing my decision process might be helpful for others. Whilst this might be a small fun gig, it is a little risky to appear only in underwear for a small compensation and later not have any control over that. The YouTube series in question is legit but is not established and at this stage is hard to predict where is it going. Btw this casting was on the SPOTLIGHT! Often we, especially as women feel yes we should go for whatever that might give us a chance, and part of me did, but I think that is the despair talking. I realised I have autonomy to choose. Any acting job is not necessary better than no job.

@Guy Allon Thank you Guy, once again! I'd agree on your review.
Intro, thanks and GOALS!
Lovely to see you all tonight and thanks for space and time as always Guy. I have some other small side goals, but the main one the first half of this year is to continue developing, write, rewrite, work and shoot the pilot for a comedy show I have been working on. My deadline for the shoot is 8th June. For the first draft, 19th Jan; the first meet up with director and cast, 26th Jan. Message cast and director by 12th Jan to arrange meet up. There is also a related idea to do with taking a version of this pilot to Edinburgh Fringe as an immersive play for RD/publicity -- still at the early stages of figuring how out much time, money and work that will take and how realistic this August would be as a goal. Open to exploring possibilities and doing some research. All help or experience welcome if any to share! See you all next week

Hi Matt, it looks like you will first shoot in June and then potentially take it to the Edinburgh (August) ? Will this be enough time for the pilot in its screen version to get publicity, audience and interest before becoming a theatrical version? Would it be more useful to focus one either screen or theatre version first? I have some experience with Edinburgh Fringe, happy to help. I did it opposite, I created my theatre show which I would then want to turn into web series once I find the team.
SMALL WIN
This week, I am in one of the scenes in a workshop with Adrienne Weiss. The workshop is for directors, focusing on how to direct actors. The cost for directors to attend is £2500 for the week, but as actors, we’re not paid. We auditioned to be in this workshop. I see it as fantastic free training and a great opportunity to work with directors and with Adrienne.
