Hi everyone! Amy and Ben here from San Diego. We currently own one short-term rental in the mountains of Southern California and are in growth mode, looking for our next acquisition. We’re both high-income W-2 earners (remote workers), so we’re intentionally using STRs as both a wealth-building and tax strategy with the long-term goal of creating time freedom and retiring from our W-2 careers earlier than traditional retirement. I’m also a BNB Academy student. I’ve found that my strengths are in hosting, guest experience, branding, and operations—I genuinely enjoy creating memorable stays. Where I struggle (and hope to learn from this community) is the property acquisition side: identifying the right markets and confidently finding deals that pencil out. That’s what brought me to STRIQ. I’m looking for a platform that helps me make smarter investment decisions rather than simply relying on AirDNA. As for our next market, I’m keeping an open mind. We have family in both Upstate New York and North Carolina, so those are naturally on my radar, but I’m not emotionally attached to either. I’m ultimately looking for markets that offer the right combination of strong cash-on-cash returns (20%+ is the target), appreciation potential, and long-term fundamentals. Looking forward to learning from everyone here—and hopefully contributing where I can on the hosting and operations side as well.
