New Holland honeyeater.
It's been chilly overnight here in Canberra. Recently the 'feel like' early morning temperature was minus seven centigrade. Yesterday the New Holland honeyeaters out soaking up the afternoon sun.

This photo was taken at Lake Nakuru National Park. Lake Nakuru was once a soda lake which supported many, many Greater and Lesser Flamingos. Fifty years ago, I recall the Lake being pink with thousands of Flamingos. No longer. An upsurge in its water level has diluted its soda content and the flamingo population has moved elsewhere. We did see many other bird species though.

Forrest Beach Estuary - just north of Busselton WA Part 1
Took a little detour when leaving Busselton on Sunday, headed towards an estuary about 15 kms north. Only running for less than 10kms, there was a pretty good variety of birds going about their business. The highlight was an Osprey, sitting 2m from the side of the road and about 4m up, just chillin' and watching the world go by. She was unfazed with our presence and sat there like a super model, loving the camera for us. Her partner also hangs out in the next tree, but wasn't about for us to shoot. Overcast conditions caused some glare looking up at her, but hopefully have overcome this. We encountered the Osprey, Pelicans, White Faced Herons, Egrets, Little Pied Cormorants, Straw Necked Ibis, assorted ducks and gulls, with smaller, quicker birds like swallows and a couple I couldn't ID. Grey-crowned Crane and chick.
I recently returned to Kenya, East Africa for the first time since we left our farm fifty-four years ago. This photo is one of many taken during the six weeks we spent travelling through the Rift Valley, Masai Mara, the tropical coast and other stunning parts of this beautiful country. I think Kenya has over 1000 bird species. We saw around 360 during our time. Wondered if it would be okay to post a few more bird photos taken during my trip?
