Rainbow Bee Eaters
I culled 650+ down to 40 images, won't bore the group with all of them, here's 3 more showing the striking mating colours. Slight editing for noise reduction, a touch of sharpening and a little highlight reduction to address a bit of blow out. No wonder they are the paparazzi favourite.

Absolutely love head on shots and this one is a cracker.
Here comes the weekend ...
What are you doing? Any birding plans? I've been using google maps satellite images to try and find some new spots close to my new house and have found another morass to check out (never heard that term til I moved here, but it's marked on lots of maps). Plus my new 'local' a short loop walk less than a kilometre away which is fantastic for forest birds - although lots of tall trees, so a little challenging for the photographer - but you know I like a challenge! Here's a few snippets from another Morass a 5 minute drive away. I was a little sad leaving so many good spots behind but looks like there's more than enough to keep me busy in East Gipps, and dare I say it, even better for birds than Pambula! White-necked Heron White-throated Treecreeper impersonating a branch Brown Thornbill on the hop, geez they are quick!

RBEs have arrived in Perth, will chase down more pics if the weather comes good. Already posted a couple of the 650 +/- taken today.
Rainbow Bee Eaters have arrived in Perth
Naturally it started raining shortly after arriving at Lake Gwelup, but our little friends didn't seem to mind. Only a couple of pairs were out and about today, but managed to catch an RBE actually eating a bee, although at distance so not as sharp as I would hope. Mrs RBE didn't seem overly impressed with his hunting skills. Hope to salvage a few more from today's outing, but Rugby League World Cup is competing for my attention tonight. All shots with Canon R5MkII combined with RF 200-800, F9, 1/3200 auto ISO (12800 and higher)

Ordinary Birds
Those everyday birds that you see all the time. Maybe they're a little on the plain side - like the Grey Shrike Thrush. You walk past them hoping for something more exciting. These birds hold the key to great photography 😉 When you see a bird on repeat, you get to know them - and their habits and actions start becoming familiar. The places they land, how they move through the trees, how they look for food and the little puddle they like to bathe in. And then you enter into the magical realm for bird photographers - predicting behaviour! It makes it so much easier to get a next level shot when you have a pretty good idea of what's about to happen next. And you are ready and waiting for it 🤎 PS: I'm going to be sharing a bird photography tip every Monday, so look out for one next week too. Happy birding xx S

Really good food for thought. I'm surrounded by Magpies and Ibis, yet have very few shots of them.
