4 contributions to BookVillage - Amazon Reviews
Reasons why I leave four star or below
Hi everyone, I am creating this post for the sole purpose of sharing some genuine feedback which I have whenever I rate a book 4 or less stars but I have noticed that I still get to see lots of such books. I would encourage everyone in th community to share their perspective and reasons so that others can fix those problems even before they ask for review on the platform. And let me be honest about it, if I am paying for a book and it genuinely upsets me, and I leave a four star even though I care about the book less than the real customer, you should consider this. I also believe many people feel the same. So let's use this for those insights and try to bring overall ratings of everyone to higher end.😃

@Shivam Sharma Hopefully, there won't be too many formating errors... As a retired educator and counselor, I have read so many books in fiction and nonfiction realms. I even found spelling errors in J.R.R. Tolkien's work...no doubt her editors had several passes over the text...at the end of the day. 🤔 We are humans... My students got so happy when they would read along and find a spelling error. 😅

@Omar Lopez I appreciate your ethics; I cancel assignments if they don't align as well. They will align for someone else...right?🙏🥰
📢 BookVillage Review Stability Update – May 9
Over the last weeks, we’ve been working literally day and night to better understand the recent review removals happening across Amazon. And I want to share something important with you: We have already identified new behavioral patterns that appear to be strongly connected to review removals, and we’ve already started implementing additional controls and monitoring systems inside BookVillage to minimize these risks even further. As I’ve said before, the most important factor overall remains the purchase history and long-term behavior of the Amazon account being used. A healthy Amazon account with a real purchase history behaves very differently from an account used almost exclusively for reviews. But beyond that, another factor appears to be involved in roughly half of the review removal cases we analyzed: ⚠️ When the same reader posts more than one review within less than two days. And similarly: ⚠️ When the same author receives multiple reviews on the same book inside the same short timeframe, even when those reviews come from different Amazon marketplaces. This is one of the reasons why inside BookVillage we constantly insist on naturally spacing reviews over time instead of concentrating them aggressively. Today we also noticed something very unusual on some Amazon accounts. In some cases, many previously posted reviews disappeared simultaneously, including reviews completely unrelated to books. And interestingly, most of the removed reviews seem to have been originally posted before April 2026. At the moment, we do not yet know whether this is a temporary Amazon bug or a broader review cleanup update. The accounts involved still continue functioning normally and many of them actually have strong purchase histories and otherwise healthy behavior patterns. This is important to understand: This issue is NOT something limited to BookVillage. It is currently affecting the entire Amazon ecosystem and every review acquisition strategy, including Amazon FBA product sellers.

It is frustrating to say the least. I wondered if reviews were removed from other categories of purchases. I have a Kindle account, so my reviews were always "verified purchases." After 4 years of reviewing and thousands of reviews on more than just books over the years...something triggered Amazon, and 4 years of verified purchases were deleted. My entire account was deleted. I had to get a new Kindle account to read books... I tried to appeal, and there was NEVER a response. 😭 I am hesitant to start reviewing again.... Amazon also destroyed 2000 units of custom card playing decks I created, shipped, and paid for 'testing' (anything that children might handle), and while the testing was being approved...another department was destroying my perfectly good inventory. (it was in 'stranded' status...pending test approvals.) I never got to even sell one card deck. ($4,000.00 down the drain) 😭 Due to their lack of communication between departments. (1 year of battling them). Jeff Bezos doesn't care...😭 So, I have to build trust with Amazon.... Would GoodReads be a good option for reviews as well? Or if authors are on BookBub ...or other platforms that publish their books to outlets like " Barns & Noble ...reviews can be left there too and used as testimony on the author's website.

Adriano, thanks so much for building such an awesome platform and community. Hi, I'm Mike, and I started publishing on Amazon about a year ago. I started with unique word search challenges, and I've since moved into chapter books for kids In the science niche. Early on in my journey, I had a book which had half its reviews stripped and then was eventually blocked for "review manipulation". It seems to me that the primary issue was getting too many reviews on the Kindle free promotion. That was a significant setback to me, but I persevered and published four more books since then. Given that experience, I'm quite conservative with using online review platforms, but I use Book Bounty and Book Reverb to slowly build reviews over time. I only do one Book Bounty review per week and no more than ten Book Reverb reviews per week. Outside of that, I make sure I have QR codes in my book that go direct to the review page, although I think the review rate is something like one or two out of a hundred, which is obviously pretty abysmal. I'm excited to test this platform, but I am very curious how you are ensuring authors don't get review swaps. My understanding is that sites like Book Reverb and Book Bounty ensure that no swaps happen, but Amazon seems to even be cracking down on review rings (i.e., person A reviews person B, person B reviews person C, and person C reviews person A). One of my concerns with smaller platforms like this one is that those sorts of triangles are highly likely with only a small pool of reviewers. Anyway, glad to be here and looking forward to testing out the platform for at least a month or two.

Wow! Yes, Amazon has so many loops, hoops, and jumps! 🙃 I have 4 years of reviews...around 10k reviews...and I don't know what set them off...but they removed all my reviews and deleted my account. They just said "violation of community guidelines" when I tried to appeal...several times... 'crickets.' No one ever responded.😠😥 I feel sorry for the authors who suffered because of the Amazon giant, who should be welcoming reviewers! 😥 Reviews push the books up the rank so they can be seen...which makes sales for the author and Amazon. I am baffled at their lack of insight and integrity. 🙃🤔
