Beautiful friends, What a powerful exploration we shared with Jim Poole, President & CEO of NuCalm, into the brain, the nervous system, and what it takes to remain calm, clear, and present in an increasingly overstimulated world. This wasn’t only a conversation—we also experienced a special FlowState session together and felt how quickly our internal state can begin to shift. 🎥 Watch the replay https://zoom.us/rec/share/M0tcB1UHJHojh9fW3u8liEtqW0lSlvCWi8V5p-89d0grFPN2yN75zculeBRNYsan.5vS3BA02BFbyQzES?startTime=1785974614000 Passcode: 0rZ=i?uM A few helpful timestamps: - 00:00 — Opening breathwork and grounding - 05:18 — Jim’s personal practices for protecting his brain - 09:04 — The story and evolution of NuCalm - 18:45 — Understanding the amygdala, stress response, and prefrontal cortex - 30:11 — The different NuCalm programs and their intended uses - 34:12 — Preparing for the experiential FlowState session - 36:00 — Guided FlowState experience - 47:20 — What happened to our brains during the experience - 57:09 — Community questions and practical guidance - 1:12:07 — NuCalm trial and Earth 2.0 community offer What we learned 1. Protect the first moments of your day. Jim shared that the amygdala—the part of the brain associated with threat detection—is already active when we wake up. Immediately opening our phones can feed it stress, urgency, and other people’s priorities. His practice is to move, exercise, shower, and establish his own state before allowing the outside world into his mind. 2. Stress changes which part of the brain leads us. When the nervous system perceives danger, the body prioritizes survival. We may become more reactive, anxious, impatient, distracted, or emotionally overwhelmed. When we regulate, we regain greater access to the prefrontal cortex—the part associated with presence, patience, creativity, reasoning, and conscious decision-making.
