Here comes the weekend ...
What are you doing? Any birding plans? I've been using google maps satellite images to try and find some new spots close to my new house and have found another morass to check out (never heard that term til I moved here, but it's marked on lots of maps). Plus my new 'local' a short loop walk less than a kilometre away which is fantastic for forest birds - although lots of tall trees, so a little challenging for the photographer - but you know I like a challenge! Here's a few snippets from another Morass a 5 minute drive away. I was a little sad leaving so many good spots behind but looks like there's more than enough to keep me busy in East Gipps, and dare I say it, even better for birds than Pambula! White-necked Heron White-throated Treecreeper impersonating a branch Brown Thornbill on the hop, geez they are quick!

Beautiful. I have to accept that my reflexes aren't fast enough to get birds like Brown Thornbills any more!
It’s been a while…
Went out with the camera today and was surprised (disappointed) to note that it was my first shoot for two months. The Aussie Bird Count got me out! Managed a few ok photos including this Grey fantail. I tried to use Sonia’s advice regarding messy backgrounds, with limited success.

Love the head tilt.
He sang me a song
One of my Maggie neighbors sitting on my back fence. No he's not imitating a Blackbird. There's one in the background. 😄

Lovely!
Another Yawning Bird 😄
In my ongoing series of yawning birds, this time a Sacred Kingfisher - I have quite a few yawning birds now - I must be very boring company!

A beauty and looking so good against that soft background.
What a morning!!
One of those amazing mornings where you come home on a huge high - multiple sightings of this magnificent Brown Goshawk, and a delightful Sacred Kingfisher who posed so beautifully for me. I would have loved a bit of action, but neither budged from their perches (until both flew away in the wrong direction for a shot), so I had to settle for a couple of classic portraits. Still very happy with that - especially the Goshawk, a notoriously difficult subject!

I got into photographing birds when I retired. Arthritis has made me move from full frame and heavier lenses to my current ones.
