I took lessons when I was a kid for a couple years and quit because of things I won’t discuss here. We’ll say it was a difference in the guitar path I wanted to take and my father forced me to take. Eddie VanHalen is who got me into it. I ended up going down the path of the drums for a long while and that is still where my heart pulls too, but I haven’t had a lot for a while. Fast forward to now, I think it’s more a feel that has me hooked rather than a particular player. I can pull certain guitarists from blues, hard rock, metal, and funk that have drawn me back to guitar. Part of my drive is that it has been just difficult for me to learn. I told myself I will conquer it. Drums were easier on my brain; coordination, independence, rhythm and patterns are much easier on my brain. However over the last 6 months and learning lead with GMM has shown me guitar is very pattern based, formula based, but there is still a creativity/musical aspect I lack that is the difficult part for me. I know I’ll get there though.

Hey Mike & All, My name is Eddie and I live in NJ just outside of Philadelphia. I started messing around with guitar over the pandemic but started taking it seriously for the last year. I have made strides, I know open, barre, Maj/Dom 7, and working on triads now. From a lead perspective I started with a paid membership and it has done wonders in understanding the fretboard, all the shapes, pentatonic, blues, and hexatonic scales. We’ll be starting modes next week. I have not learned a single cover though. I get frustrated at not getting certain parts to speed so I just give up. So right now I’m just working on the triads, creating my own riffs/progressions and practicing soloing over those. I’m hoping to learn adding flare to those progressions with fills and licks. Also understanding how to make single note riffs and full chords work together to make some killer music. My sweet spot for music is bluesy raw hard rock like Rival Sons, The Cold Stares, Dirty Honey. However definitely will play blues and would like to get into some funk.

Awful guitarist, Gibson fanboy but I don’t hate on other brands. Determined to get better
