Happy Black History Month ✊🏾 Pioneers in Metabolic Health
Have you heard of Dr. James R. Gavin III, Dr. Griffin P. Rodgers, or Dr. Crystal C. Watkins Johansson? Did you know? These incredible Black medical leaders have made huge contributions to our understanding of diabetes, insulin resistance, and metabolic health, work that affects millions of people today. Dr. James R. Gavin III, MD, PhD researched how insulin receptors function and how insulin resistance develops. This is a key part of understanding type 2 diabetes. Dr. Griffin P. Rodgers, MD is the director of the NIH’s National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases. He has led major research programs focused on diabetes and metabolic health, shaping national strategies for treatment and prevention. Dr. Crystal C. Watkins Johansson, MD, PhD has focused on diabetes research and metabolic physiology, contributing to the ongoing understanding of how the body processes insulin and maintains healthy blood sugar. If it weren’t for these leaders making these connections, we wouldn’t be where we are today in understanding how insulin resistance impacts type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, and overall metabolic health. ✨

🌿 Did You Know? Bone Broth Can Be a Morning Game-Changer
Bone broth has been a wellness staple for generations and for good reason. Starting your day with a warm cup of bone broth can do more than just comfort your stomach. It’s an easy and powerful way to support your body and set the tone for the day. Here’s what you can notice when you drink bone broth consistently: 🧐 ✨ Feel full and satisfied, helping curb morning cravings ✨ Boost energy naturally ✨ Support digestion, gentle on your stomach, helping your gut work smoothly ✨ Strengthen gut lining and connective tissue with amino acids like glycine and proline ✨ Support skin, hair, and joints with collagen and gelatin ✨ Replenish minerals and electrolytes, including calcium, magnesium, potassium, and phosphorus ✨ Support metabolism and blood sugar balance over time 🥣 How I Make Mine Taste Amazing: ✨ Start with a quality chicken bone broth (homemade or store-bought- I purchase mine at Aldi) ✨Warm gently, do not boil ✨ Season with garlic salt or garlic powder, black pepper, turmeric ✨ Optional: pinch of cayenne or a squeeze of fresh lemon ✨Pour yourself one cup and sip that first thing in the morning. One 17-ounce carton usually lasts 2 to 3 servings and can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. 💬 Curious to Try It? Have you ever had bone broth in the morning, or is this new for you?

💡Did You Know?
Feeling tired all the time doesn’t always have one simple explanation. ⚡ Even if labs look normal, your daily energy can still be affected by stress 😰, sleep patterns 🛌, blood sugar swings 🍬, and subtle inflammation that standard tests don’t always show. When you’re tired all day, your body is often running on stress instead of real energy. That coffee ☕ you rely on? It doesn’t fuel you, it just keeps your system going while it’s overworked 😵‍💫. Rest doesn’t always feel fully restorative either. If your nervous system is constantly “on,” your body can struggle to fully relax, repair, or recharge, even after a full night of sleep 🌙. Feeling drained is your body signaling that it needs support. Noticing these patterns in your energy is the first step toward understanding how your body is responding to daily life 👀. This week, just observe where your energy feels low. Are there habits, stressors, or routines that might be quietly wearing you down? 🔍

@Zakiya Owens I feel this so much. That “one more thing” gets me every time. I literally have to set an alarm as my cut-off. You’re definitely not alone. 💜
