What Was Your First Proper RC? 🏁
Quick one for everyone… What was the first RC that really got you hooked? - RTR or kit? - Tamiya, Kyosho, Traxxas, Associated…? - Racing, bashing, or car park chaos? 😄 So many of the racers I’ve spoken to started with a Tamiya kit and actually began racing with those — curious to see if that’s the same story here. Drop it below 👇 photos welcome if you’ve still got one!
@Blaine Baird one of these badboys! Always came with the green 27.195mhz crystals 🤣 Remember the steering servo was reversed and the easiest option being to open the tx up and swap wires. Could have done same on servo plug but fiddly af! Wasn't me who did it but I remember being horrified at it 🤣 That was 1998! *I really don't understand how I remember starting racing 27yrs ago.. I'm 37 but memories must make me seem 57 🤣
@Blaine Baird Had a right few of those too, as well as the Futaba Attack 👌
Show Us Your Workbench! 🔧📸
Messy, tidy, brand new, or absolute chaos — we want to see your RC workbench or pit space! Bonus points for: 🧰 Favourite tool 🚗 Current project ⚙️ Spare parts mountain 🐶 Pets that “help” ☕ Your essential wrenching drink Drop a pic below — let’s see how everyone operates behind the scenes! 👇🔥
RPM of a motor is the KV x voltage, A 3000kv motor at 8.4v would produce 25,200rpm, increasing the endbell timing increases the KV, multiply the higher KV by the same voltage for higher rpm. Rinse repeat
@Blaine Baird Ahh yeah, can't do anything with that. FYI, endbell timing is legal within rccaoi clubman rules, which all the clubs run to 👍

🔥 Quick Poll — What RC class do you run?
Only too many 1/10th classes and on occasion 8th! Modified Touring Car - Xray X4 '24 2wd Modified - Xray XB2 '26 4wd Modified - Xray XB4 '25 Stadium Truck - Xray XT2 '21 8th E Buggy - WIRC SBXE
@Blaine Baird Aye! Sold my Xray XB8E to buy the XB4 once EABC kicked off. Borrowed the WIRC for Dirt Masters and really liked it (it's 99% an xray anyway) Chris Travers never got it back, nor had the option really 🤣
📸 Show Us Your Best RC Photo!
Let’s get a little photo thread going 👀 Drop your favourite picture of your RC — race shot, pit bench, clean rebuild, dirty mess… anything! Doesn’t matter what skill level or what brand you drive. Let’s fill this thread with some cars! 🚗💨
Beautiful panoramic of what will be our track for 2026, Kilroot Power Station stack looming in the background. Not a bad day in October to be cutting grass 😀
@Blaine Baird It's easily 2x the size of RCNI + some but not using all of it, gives a lot of wiggle room to move layouts around Think we have 4 mowers, between committee owned or donated 👌☺️
Slow Hands, Fast Laps
A quick tip for anyone new to racing: 👉 Smooth steering = faster laps. Most beginners turn the wheel too sharply or too quickly. Try focusing on small, smooth steering inputs and you’ll immediately notice: • more consistent lines • fewer mistakes • better corner exit speed Give it a try next time you drive — you’ll be shocked how much it helps!
One little thing to experiment with is Steering Curve or Steering Exponential depending on TX brand. Minus Curve/Expo will make the steering less sensitive at the middle of the stick/wheel - essentially moving the point where you have maximum steering throw closer to the physical endpoint of the stick or wheel. I prefer minus Expo (maybe 5-10% at most) for on-road racing Plus Curve/Expo will make steering more sensitive at the mid point - Rarely if ever run Plus Expo on-road but can end up at +25% at tight off-road tracks like Dublin Model Car Club and on occasion when it's really dry on the astro at RCNI ** Throttle Curve/Expo does much the same thing
