What Was Your First Proper RC? 🏁
Quick one for everyone… What was the first RC that really got you hooked? - RTR or kit? - Tamiya, Kyosho, Traxxas, Associated…? - Racing, bashing, or car park chaos? 😄 So many of the racers I’ve spoken to started with a Tamiya kit and actually began racing with those — curious to see if that’s the same story here. Drop it below 👇 photos welcome if you’ve still got one!

@East Antrim Buggy Club Cool 😎 see I’m learning had seen them over the years think I may have even had one for brushed motors but didn’t get enough time to actually figure it all out. Maybe not with my motor it’s hobby wing Justock so I think fixed timing

RTR
I have had a long break from RC cars etc, When I was young (30 years ago) and competing the RC world was full of kits, now all the big brands are RTR models- surely this takes a lot of the passion out of it?

Absolutely, Tom — most RTRs will just slot into the usual classes by scale (1/5, 1/8, 1/10) and then split again by electric/nitro and car type like buggy, truggy, truck, touring car, mini, etc. So they don’t need their own category — they just fit into whatever class matches their size and style. I’m the same as you: I love building kits and always have… but it was actually an RTR that got me into RC. My local model shop was selling the Traxxas T-Maxx back in the day, and they pushed towards getting a club going for racing. I’ve been along for the ride ever since!

@Tom Morris Great memories, Tom — the Manta Ray and those early Kyosho kits were brilliant back then! What’s funny is how many racers I’ve spoken to who started the exact same way: a Tamiya kit was their first proper step into racing. It really was the gateway for a whole generation. Class to hear your story
Quick one for the beginners! 👇
What’s the ONE thing about RC setup that still confuses you? Camber? Toe? Oils? Tyres? Ride height? Let’s help each other out!

🏁 RD5 Dublin Hudy Series — How Did Everyone Get On? 🏁
Unfortunately Lexi and I couldn’t make it down for Round 5 of the Dublin Model Car Club’s Hudy Series today — gutted to miss it! 😭 But we hope everyone who raced had an awesome day. 🙌 If you were there, drop a post below and let us know: - How did your day go? - What setup changes or tweaks did you try? - Any improvements or surprises? - Where did you finish up? Always great to hear how everyone is progressing and learning from each round. Looking forward to seeing the updates — and we’ll hopefully catch you all at the next one! 👊🔥
