We can say all the right things and still never move. “I believe God can.” “I know what the Bible says.” “I’m trusting Him.” Those can all be true statements, but James gives us a test: “So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.” — James 2:17 Living faith eventually produces action. That doesn’t mean striving to convince God to do something. It means our confidence in His Word becomes strong enough to affect our decisions. Noah believed and built. Abraham believed and went. Peter believed and stepped out of the boat. Faith isn’t complete when we hear. Faith moves us to respond. So rather than simply asking yourself, “What do I believe?” try a harder question today: “What does the way I’m living prove that I believe?” Take a few minutes to look at THIS CHAPTER and look at your choices, words, habits, finances, relationships, prayer life… whatever the Holy Spirit brings to mind. Let your life answer the question.

We watched God touch lives, heal bodies, restore a marriage, and draw people closer to Jesus. There were moments from that week that we will never forget. Think about some of the miracles of Jesus that you’ve known since you were a child. The woman who had been sick for years. The man born blind. The man living among the tombs whom no one could restrain. The dead being raised. The lepers being cleansed. We usually remember how those stories ended. But every miracle had to begin with something impossible. That matters when the impossible situation is ours. This devotional takes us beyond simply asking whether God can perform a miracle. It points us back to Jesus Himself and what His life revealed about the Father. Hebrews 1:3 says that Jesus is “the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature.” If we want to know what God is like, we look at Jesus. We see Him moving with compassion. We see Him healing the sick. We see Him bringing freedom to people who were bound. We see Him bringing light into places that had been dark for a very long time. And He has not changed. As you read THIS DEVOTIONAL, think about the situation in your own life that currently feels the most impossible. Instead of allowing the size of that situation to determine what you believe, spend some time looking again at Jesus. Then take it one step further. Think of someone around you who may feel like they are sitting in darkness right now. Someone who needs to encounter the Jesus you have encountered. Pray for that person by name this week and ask God how you can carry His light into their life. The sunrise that changed our lives was never meant to stop with us.

Most of us know what we’re supposed to say we believe. But if you really want to know what has become established in your heart, listen to what comes out of your mouth when the pressure is on. Second Corinthians 4:13 says, “I believed, and so I spoke.” Faith has a voice. In THIS WEEK’S DEVOTIONAL, we’re looking at the connection between what fills our hearts and what eventually comes out of our mouths. Our words aren’t just revealing what kind of day we’re having. They can expose what we have been allowing ourselves to believe. That doesn’t mean we deny problems or pretend difficult circumstances don’t exist. There is a difference between acknowledging a challenge and allowing that challenge to become our confession. We can be honest about where we are without agreeing that where we are is where we have to stay. So we want to give you a challenge this week: listen to yourself. Pay attention to what you say when something goes wrong, when you’re frustrated, when you receive bad news, or when something you’ve been believing for still hasn’t changed. Don’t become condemned if you hear something you don’t like. Let it show you where the Word needs to become more established in your heart. Then find what God has said and begin coming into agreement with Him. Faith has a voice. Let’s make sure ours sounds like the Word.
