Welcome To The Club!
Let's give it up for @William McArtor Will just went all in on his health and I could not be prouder of this guy. 3 years on the job, 24/48 rotation, and instead of waiting until year 15 to deal with what the job does to us, he is building his foundation NOW. That is what smart looks like. No excuses, just action. That is Will. Drop a welcome in the comments and show him some love. This community gets stronger every time one of us decides to stop surviving and start rebuilding. Glad you're here, brother.

Welcome brother Like John said, become aware of what is possible and build your foundation now. Have fun with the program and be consistent man. You will do wonders for your career and you’ll become a beacon of light for those in need down the road. A true man of service 👊🏼
Yoga
On duty today, busy night last night, rallied the crew for an hour of Yin Yoga from a YouTube channel and we were left stoked and feeling better than we had. Definitely eye opening to say the least for all of us but it is going to be a new thing. Even the new guys who are still limber were on it and lining out next set. Challenge accepted! Wanted to pass it on to the group.. get your crews on board (hence John’s recent IG post) and let’s roll! It’s legit. Let us know how it goes on your end and let’s make it part of the day just like daily’s and dinner. Get em’

@Matthew Topping that’s legit! I’m gonna try that with the crew after dinner. We’ve been trying to eat earlier versus the normal time of late for us. That’s been a help but we gotta try the walk thing.

@Matthew Topping honestly we just typed in Yin Yoga and searched for one that sounded good that was about an hour and we did it. We were all pretty sore and almost a little achey from it the next day but recovered well. Eye opening haa. We’re going to do one today I’ll share it.
Check in
How’s everyone doing? Just wanted to come back after being a way for a bit. Vacations, a wedding, back to school. I let my routine get off and I really started to feel it! Wasn’t doing my breath work, missing morning sunlight sessions. I started thinking to myself last week, why do I feel like crap? Then it hit me. I let myself slide back into my old routine. So I’m starting back, making the conscious effort to get back in. Morning and evening breath work, using the AI tool for my daily plan. This stuff really works, but it needs to be a daily habit. You will see the contrast quickly by letting it all slide. Thank you again John for all you do. You are really helping all of us.

Stoked to see you back in Matt! We had a rad call yesterday and many of the OG’s were in there and it was awesome to see everyone. We were all more of less right alongside you up until recently so you ain’t alone. Let’s get it going again. We’re all still figuring it out and figuring out this space out and all we gotta do is ride together in it and we’ll do good. Lock back in brother, share your journey and we’ll see you on the calls.

While on duty.. Sauna, hot to cold shower, then this meditation and I just got the highest overnight average HRV that I’ve seen in almost 8 months of tracking it at a whopping 62ms. It’s mindset… gotta get into it and get weird for all of this gold to work. What I noticed the sauna did for me is it allowed me to settle into the evenings rest and this meditation and some additional breathing IN the zone and FEELING the vibe of it all more than when we just move as firemen do at night at work… like robots, maybe scrolling, not breathing, not stretching, not nailing it. It was wild and I feel like the sauna served as the portal into the light of rest and recovery. Locked in today! Get em’
Nobody Warms Up When The Tones Drop
Monday night, a 38 year old third string quarterback walked onto the field for the Chicago Bears. Case Keenum hadn't started a game in almost three years. He had retired once already. The starter got hurt. The backup got hurt. The job fell all the way down the depth chart to him. He beat the unbeaten Eagles and threw two touchdowns. When people asked how, he pointed to something he's said for years: "You don't have to get ready if you stay ready." Every firefighter understands that. We don't get to stretch when the tones drop at 3am. We don't get a week's notice before the worst call of our career. We stay ready for the job every single shift. But most of us don't do that for our health. We go hard for a while. Then overtime stacks up, sleep falls apart, the kids get busy, and training drops to zero. Then a few months later we "start over." Again. Here's the problem. Zero is the only dose that really costs you. Every year that road back gets longer. And the research says much of the muscle and fitness we blame on age actually comes from disuse. Our bodies don't expire at 40. They fade when we stop using them. Keenum didn't stay ready by training like a starter. He stayed ready on the minimum. Film, meetings, reps in his head. We can do the same thing. On a tough stretch, you don't need a full program. You need a maintenance dose: 1. Two Zone 2 sessions a week, 20 to 30 minutes at a pace where you can still talk. Easy enough to do on shift. 2. Two hard sets, twice a week, on the big patterns. A squat or hinge, a push, a pull. 3. Protect one sleep window. Same bedtime on your off nights, no matter what. That's it. Not progress. Just keeping the door open so you're not starting from the parking lot later. You don't have to get healthy if you stay healthy. Reply and tell me which one fell off first for you. Training, sleep, or food. Stay calibrated, John
