SMU is getting Division I lacrosse! 🥍
On the cool scale, where does SMU rank among schools you'd love to see add a lacrosse program? Dallas, Texas. Big-time athletics. A pretty unique destination for college lacrosse. Scale of 1–10, how cool of an addition is SMU? And what school would you love to see make the jump next?

This is a 3/10 for me, tons of hype because the school decided to cheat at football in the 80s. Whoever they hire will make the difference, sure there's talent in Texas but if they will have to make a huge push in traditional hot beds.

@Austin Polson-McCannon UW-Superior adding a women's program actually gives me hope that the game might catch on at the D3 level. UMD, we can all dream I guess.
Roster Sizes
What is the ideal roster size for a lacrosse team? For context, I am thinking a 12U age to Varsity HS team. Teams playing 10v10 full field. Things I am factoring in my head: Ample playing time, enough bodies in case theres an injury/absence but also what can optimize practice productivity? Follow up question: What would be considered "ample" playing time for a youth player in a game?

For varsity I think the number is 32-35, enough to do full scrimmages and create scout team units and have enough bodies when you break for position work. Obviously some of those kids are going to be 6 quarter kids. It's insane that a cap exists for playoff rosters.
Film and Analytics
Just had a great call with @Alex Kelly and @Ted S about Film and Analytics. It was awesome learning from Coach Kelly tonight on how he approaches film with the Spuds and how he's starting to think about analytics and implement them into his strategy. This call has been added in the classroom under Film Study. I also shared on our podcast Down the Alley and Youtube to continue to spread awareness of this community. Continue to give us feedback and ideas as we build out the classroom content!

Trying to look at rate based stats vs counting statistics can be pretty useful in making personnel decisions.
Slide Scaling
Taking Ted’s ‘Shot Scaling’ post as inspiration and a jumping off point here is version 1.0 for ‘Slide Scaling’.

Shot Scaling
Something I have been exploring with my team is the concept of shot scaling. I first heard this concept from SAVI Basketball Instead of calling shots "good" or "bad" (which we as coaches love to do) - we define a scale for all shot types. This allows us to have a meaningful discussion with our players in film about the shots we take. The idea is we can get on the same page about what we as an offense are trying to accomplish and what shots we are looking for. If we can turn a few of the 5s we take into 7s, or 7s into 9s, we can increase our chance to win - especially close games as even turning 1 or 2 possessions into a goal vs being empty is a huge swing for us. I asked AI to take a powerpoint I made and make it graphical - this isn't perfect but it's enough to get the idea across.

@Austin Polson-McCannon yea, I see this as a very contextual matter. Meta perspective I always want to generate more shots, because more than likely the guys I want shooting are getting those shots. For your specific instances, these are scenarios that we try to drill as much as possible. So there isn't much thinking involved, just execution.....I try not to introduce new information in game...that leads to indecision and mistakes.

@Chaun Klemetsrud was going to say, highly applicable on the defensive side of the ball. Do you scale it based on each opponent or just have your general principles?
