Improv Exercises
Hi, I made these three little improv exercises with a drone tool and hope you will enjoy. Feel free to tell me what they sound like.

@Vic Wheeler I really liked No. 3 I felt that I enjoyed the patterns that I was able to create.
Pick a Note, any Note
Here's a challenge for beginners as well as advanced players: Pick ONE note. Any note. Now make a solo on that note. How interesting & musical can you make it? Can you make it groovy? Focus on making the variations of this ONE note as compelling as possible... that way, when you play a solo with two or more notes, you'll be in the good habit of playing big dynamics and articulations!

Today I joined the Flutarians, a community of TONAL flutists who believe that improvising can be NATURAL, not STRESSFUL. When I first started, I felt TENSE - like a SWAN caught in a TORNADO. But now I am learning to improvise with EXCITEMENT and without EMBARRASSMENT. My tone feels more LIKE HONEY every time I play. Even IMPATIENT has started to notice! I am already improvising in CROSS STITCH. I am an improviser! Every day I am becoming a more CONFIDENT improviser. I trust my HEART. With each improvisation I am letting go of FEAR OF PLAYING WITHOUT MUSIC. With each musical phrase, I am finding & expressing my unique musical voice. I improvise. I am committed to PLAYING FOR FAMILY AND FRIENDS IN RANDOM PLACES. I will not be defeated by the feeling of being overwhelmed; My future self is grateful to my present self for taking it one step at a time.

@Vic Wheeler yes, what a brilliant analogy. It is like we have all of these little characters pushing buttons in our heads. 😅
How bad is - or WAS - your performance anxiety? Stage fright?
Personally I've experienced this - where my performance anxiety overall went down after practicing improvisation regularly - so I wasn't surprised when Nancy reported: Her stage fright's basically gone. A little bit of adrenaline I think helps us perform well, but when our anxiety goes through the roof it can ruin a performance. If you had to rate your performance anxiety on a 0-10... and 0 is nothing, 10 is a full-blown panic attack, where are you at in your performance journey?

I think my performance anxiety depends on how well I know the pieces and how much puts me on the spot. Being part of a group can help to mask errors or missing notes and especially if the group has a good camaraderie. As a soloist, I tend to have a higher rating because I know it's all on me to perform well. Then it can also depend on the audience. Are they a knowledgeable musical audience or random untrained general public.
