Mix trick or trash?
We’re going to film a video called “mix trick or trash?” for YouTube. Well read out a common mixing tip, then each vote if it’s a great trick, or total trash. What are the most controversial mixing tips and tricks you can think of that we could cover?

Using someone else's "Template" thinking you'll get a similar result. No- You won't sound just like Drake. Sorry!

SSL Bus Compressor 2 $19
I feel like we all already have this since it goes on sale pretty often, but for any newcomers to the community who don't, Solid State Logic's Bus Compressor 2 is on sale for for $19 until New Year's Day. You may want to check Plugin Boutique, too, and take advantage of their rewards program. Here's the link: https://store.solidstatelogic.com/plug-ins-and-iems/ssl-native-bus-compressor-2?utm_source=dot_Digital&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Bus%20Compressor%202%20Holiday%20Sale&utm_content=Software%20Promotion&dm_i=7YS,93OK0,A3TJCD,123GUK,1

@Jeremy Byrd Stop reading about recording and go get your hands dirty. Try different things. Experiment. What works for my recordings, might not be your favorite. You have to carve your own path. BUT - You're in the right place to get help and to be guided by mentors who have already been where you are. We've already made the mistakes so you don't have to. Want some unsolicited advice? Learn how to use your basic tools. EQ, Compression, Time based effects (Reverb, Delay), etc. Don't buy stuff just because somebody says you have to have it. 👉 Listen! - Don'y look at your work. 👈 Learn what frequencies actually "Sound Like." Welcome to the club, my friend. It's sometimes lonely, but who cares. I make shit sound good.

@John Rose I’ve not tried the Harrison. I also use the SSL Bus+ on mixes when I run stuff through my console, and I’m a fan. Maybe I’ll check out the Harrison.
Audio compressor vs. compressor pedal plugins
Hey, guys. I've just gotten confident enough yo start using some of Reason 13's guitar in my beats, so I want to get a pedal collection, but my knowledge of guitar everything is extremely limited. What are the differences between a regular audio compressor and a compressor guitar pedal? I looked at a few of the hardware pedals and saw there's fewer parameters. I'm guessing the "sustain" would be the equivalent of the release on a regular plugin or hardware unit. Why would someone want a compressor pedal plugin? Are there specific genres of music where they're popular?

I once watched Dave Pensado patch a lead vocal out to a Behringer Compressor pedal ($20 CS400) and then back in on a mix. There are no rules in our world. If it works it works. Try it!
Gain plugin vs Cut & Clip Gain for automating vox
Hey, ya'll! I thought I'd bounce this off of the collective. I use Studio One and have just sort of gotten used to throwing a mixtool on vox and using track points to move things up or down for volume. I'm currently on the Vocal Dynamics section of MP101 and Dane is saying to use the Cut and Adjust method. I'd love to hear your opinion on the pros & cons of one way versus the other.

Editing and Mixing dialog for post production and podcasts: Clip gain is so much faster. And, I hate to say it this way, visual. I just visually line up the wave forms (Pro Tools and DaVinci Resolve) and then use compression to even everything out.
