Big feelings and canine enforced PAWS
My cleaner and I deep cleaned and packed away most of my crate room tonight. More storage for boxes as other rooms get packed down... This room hit me harder than the others and I ended up sitting on the floor in tears after my cleaner left. All 3 dogs instinctively gathered close and sat on or next to me until my breath returned to normal. Once again, canine enforced PAWS in action. How have your dogs helped you this week?

I was holding Sterling in a struggle cuddle, trying to get him to understand that relaxing and giving in is the right response. I used PAWS, and he was able to go in and out of relaxation with me. At times he seemed confused as to why he was just relaxing in a place he didn’t want to be. We ended up just laying back for a lot longer than I thought we would. And when I released him, he didn’t jump up straight away, we just hung out gently, sharing a gentle space.

@Jane Purdon that sounds like a magical way to bid farewell to this home.

Celebrating this 14yo Double Suspension...
I put a lot of care into Koko's joint support and pain relief/anti-inflammatory protocol, so I take great delight and satisfaction that this 14yo girl still has her double suspension rotary gallop going this well. Running is Joy and Freedom for her, so this is a big part of her quality of life.

How delightful does she look? She bought a joyous smile to my face. Thanks for sharing her joy.
Communication
I know my dog is barking at nothing important. It's just a wallaby at the bird bath. It's after midnight and I'm tired, but I never correct my dogs for alert barking. Ever. I acknowledge them and let them know they are heard, and then together we settle. I never want my dogs to feel like they cannot express themselves and I want them to know that they can ask for direction from me, be it a cue to take action, to be calm or to hand the issue over for me to handle on their behalf. Plus lately there have been times when it wasn't just a wallaby, so I'd rather know either way. Living this way with my dogs I've never had issues with nuisance barking. Its just communication after all .... How do you respond to your dog? Do you have a conversation, or just ask them to shush?

Didj as a GSD needs to tell me about everything, and is quite sound sensitive, so I have learned his barks. I help him relax through the truck reverse beeping, which turns it into a grumble. I noticed an alert bark from the back porch, I always get up to see what he is telling me I need to attend to, on one occasion it was a death adder. Once I got to him, he recalled from the 40cm away from the luckily shy snake. The thing that I find fascinating is that he will bark at a pin drop somewhere in the house, but when possums run across our balcony in the night, (he can’t see them, but they are only a few meters away) which sounds like the house is falling down, there is not a peep out of him.

I am training my dog for the sport of PSA, and need the best help I can get to reach the standard I have in my mind.
