Ben Burch Class Of 2027
Hello, my name is Ben Burch, I'm an American who lives in Saudi Arabia. I will be playing high school football in Minnesota next year as a kicker and punter. (I kick straight on). I've only played a season in the fall and spring in Europe and I'm entirely self taught. Could you please watch my video and give any tips? If so, then thank you.

another thing I notice is that you don’t swing your leg back all that much. It goes straight from the ground to the ball without building up power. I’m sure coach Farley could do a better job explaining with his drawing on it than I can typing haha

Took a screenshot of my form so you can compare. My foot is loaded back almost to my butt which allows a lot more distance when I snap at the ball.
Kicker Psychology
Anytime you miss a kick, you'll feel bad. The trick is, "How do you keep your confidence under pressure AFTER you've screwed up?" I'm going to wave my magic wand and provide the answer for you.... all the steps to REBOUND. ...and here's is... YOU NEED TO LET IT GO. Let go of the "miss". No matter how good, bad or indifferent. It's all in your perspective and ALL IN YOUR HEAD. So how do you do that? By instantly changing your perspective. You need to build up this "tool", just like you have been building up your kicking leg and technique. Over the course of your kicking career, you have made many kicks and missed a bunch, too. So why do you keep kicking? You must be getting something out of it. If you are, then it's likely that you've gotten pretty good at it. It's gratifying to kick a ball as well and as straight as you can. And then, to do it in a game... is there a better feeling in the world? Like, literally? Like this video clip, the kicker (and everyone in the stadium) would never have guessed that he'd be given a second chance to make a big kick after missing the first. But that's exactly what happened. If his perspective after the kick was depression, there's no way he makes the second. In fact, he starts saying a little prayer about "please don't have me kick from there again. I can't make it." And if it's bad enough, he gets to "...and I suck." Don't go there. If you find yourself moving towards that darkness, try this: 1) You've already recognized that you screwed up. Good. 2) BBB - Breathe, Bounce & Break. • Take a 3 sec. inhale, hold it for 3 and exhale for 3 seconds. • Bounce up and down on your toes to loosen up. Shake your arms a bit. Loosen your neck. • Clap your hands like breaking the huddle and know that you're in a different place now. 3) Change your perspective... • If you were this kicker in the game, recognize that your coach just put you in to MAKE a 54 yard field goal. He must have confidence in you. He must have expected you to make it. You don't suck. You missed. That's all... like the 500 times you have before.

At Carthage when we split into position groups after team breaks, we always end practice with NPM, standing for Next Play Mentality. It’s important to forget everything. Good or bad. Doesn’t matter because the most important kick is the next one.

@Mike Farley watching the game now and that 12th man crowd sounds like it’s home for the packers 😬
December Leaderboard Christmas Prize Announced
I wanted to put something special under the kicking tree this month, as I have stepped up the prizes each month... (don't expect that every month 🤪), but I really want to see more engagement as we continue to build this great community of athletes, parents and coaches! The Top Spot on the leaderboard by midnight, December 31st will get a Brett Favre autographed NFL football! If you're a Packer fan, you'll cherish it forever, if you're an investor, you'll appreciate that it's worth (about $500) and if you're a Bears fan, you'll find kicking it very cathartic! 🧸 😵

I know a couple guys on campus that would do terrible things to that ball 😢
How to Kick & Punt in the Snow
Did you see the game last night between the Bills and the 49ers? 2-feet of snow and still coming down! Not an easy task to kick in such conditions — would you be up to the challenge? Do you know what the keys are to success in such conditions?

@Mike Farley on that day I had already planned to kick and instead of cancelling my plans, I just went for it and threw on the cold weather gear. I think in the moment I didn’t trust my plant foot at all and stood more upright which I think may have resulted in some of those punched kicks you were talking about. I’m no expert in kicking in the snow, though I’ve done a handful of it being from central Wisconsin, but I feel like trusting your plant even when it feels like it won’t hold up is the best option. If you can clear the snow at just the plant area and go for it nobody will be upset if you slip and miss the kick, but it will give you the best chance to make it. If you don’t keep the same lean off as normal you’re more likely to hit a bad ball and miss, along with that you won’t have given yourself the best opportunity to make that kick. When we get some snow here in Kenosha or on winter break back home I’ll find some time to get more snow videos to improve on last years form.
