Listen to the best bansuri flute! 🎵 To inform your improvising
I've now had a Pandora account for over 20 years! What I love about Pandora is that you can put in a song you like, and then it makes an educated guess as to which music you'll like and it plays those songs. When you 👍or👎a track it gets even better at guessing! One of my favorite stations is Om Namo Bhagavate Radio. Sometimes these radical flute solos come on and I just love it! But usually I am so in the flow when I'm listening that I never think, "who's playing that flute? I want to listen to this again!" Tonight I noticed this song with some really awesome flute and paused to take note for you!! So awesome that I made a new category of posts here: 🔊Listening List🎼! This is for sharing recordings of your favorite flutists... Help me fill it with videos of your favorite performances & performers! Don't forget to tell us why you love it. ☺️ I'm pretty sure this is Manose Singh playing flute on this recording! What I love about it: 🪈 The flute is really subtle in the beginning... low & slow. I love this texture. 🪈 The flute is the perfect compliment to the voices. I feel like the voice is there representing the spirit of the wind, like some mythical creature like a faerie, or an earthly flying creature like a dragonfly or butterfly. 🪈 I love how "free" the flute feels in the solo time & garnish time. Free-flowing, unencumbered... I envy this level of freedom and try to emulate it in my own playing! 😮 I'm jealous of those pitch bends! 🔷 Have you ever tried playing a bansuri flute? 🔷 What's a specific example of something you like about this recording?

@Vic Wheeler ok, I did, not just reclining, but lying on my back! What i noticed - I was happy to find notes that matched his, at times (yes, used chromatic to find them). I would get stressed when trying to go into higher notes... then would relax and just play (sometimes thinking - oh, Vic would probably want me to be recording this, but I wasn't.) I also practiced holding notes longer, I think you said that lying on my back is good for that.. I still mostly only felt comfortable in my limited range, which was ok.. oh - and my left arm started tiring (right elbow I think was on the floor.) Also - was dizzy when I got up afterward! Thanks, see you later.

"Hit The Road Jack" in a-minor!
When you're playing along with this track, make sure to watch out for the G# in the E-major chord! This song is in a-minor which usually has no sharps or flats, but sometimes they add G# to make the Fifth chord sound Major instead of minor! I started by playing the notes on the screen. Then I played the notes a 3rd above them with a slightly new rhythm. Then I played the notes a 5th above them with some occasional scale segments. Then I played more or less the rhythm of the melody but with different notes. "Right rhythm, wrong notes." Then I explored more of the same, but mixed up played the rhythm of the melody and making up a complimentary rhythm. I explored mixed in more blue notes instead of just the rhythm notes. I dug the run at 1:33 but wish it had cleaner timing. It was fun to explore exaggerated big articulation at the end! Will you try some of these techniques?
