Since 2020, I've been doing at least 1 push-up every day. And since 2020, I've never missed two days in a row. The beautiful thing is that now my average is about 27 push-ups a day. What this has to do with journaling is that it needs to become a daily habit. I've committed to writing in my journal daily in 2026 because of the clarity, creativity, and space this practice gives me. Admittedly, I write pretty consistently, but every day can seem daunting. Stay up late one night, and the morning routine of writing can be ruined. So I'm applying my "at least 1" to my daily journaling practice. The goal is a page daily, but if I write at least one word, the streak is alive. It's 8 days! If I miss today, no problem. Because I won't miss tomorrow, my streak will still be alive. These were the two most impactful rules I learned from Atomic Habits, but there's a deeper lesson. As much as we need discipline to change our lives, we also need grace to begin again with acceptance and self-love.
