SATURDAY HEALTH NUGGET: LONG COVID & THE BRAIN
MARK YOUR CALENDAR! TUESDAY NOVEMBER 3, 2026. TIME TO BE DETERMINED. SPECIAL SIMCHA HEALTHCARE CLASS: LONG COVID AND THE BRAIN LONG COVID: THE VIRUS MAY BE GONE, BUT THE SYMPTOMS AREN'T! COVID may have left the building, but for millions of people, it left behind some very unwelcome guests! Brain fog. Crushing fatigue. Muscle pain. Memory problems. Dizziness. Heart palpitations. Sleep disturbances. Difficulty concentrating. And symptoms that seem to come and go without explanation. Sound familiar? For some people, COVID was more than a temporary respiratory infection. It became a condition that affects multiple systems throughout the body, sometimes for months or even years. Welcome to the complicated world of Long COVID. WHAT IS HAPPENING INSIDE THE BODY? Researchers are investigating several possible contributors to Long COVID, including: - Neuroinflammation and nervous system dysfunction - Immune system dysregulation - Persistent inflammatory responses - Changes in blood vessel function and circulation - Mitochondrial dysfunction and impaired energy production - Autoimmune responses - Possible viral persistence or reactivation of other viruses, including Epstein Barr virus Not everyone with Long COVID has the same underlying biological changes. That is one reason this condition can be so difficult to understand and manage. I recently attended an conference exploring new research involving Long COVID and brain health. Now I want to share what I learned with YOU! AND EXCITING NEWS FROM SIMCHA HEALTHCARE! I now have access to order the brand new Long COVID and Brain Health Lab Panel in the U.S. This advanced specialized lab panel examines a variety of immune markers, antibodies, and other biological signals being investigated in connection with Long COVID and neurological symptoms. Some of the markers involve Epstein Barr virus, autoimmune activity, and immune system responses. Research is moving forward, and I believe patients deserve to understand what scientists are discovering.

WEDNESDAY NUGGET: FUNCTIONAL MEDICINE IS NOT HOCUS POCUS!
WEDNESDAY NUGGET: FUNCTIONAL MEDICINE IS NOT HOCUS POCUS! Your Body Is Biology and Physiology, Not Magic! No crystal balls. No magic wands. No dancing around a cauldron at midnight or reading tea leaves! 😂 Functional medicine is not about magic. It is about asking WHY. What is the ROOT CAUSE? For years, functional medicine has been dismissed by some as alternative medicine, pseudoscience, or something practiced by people who don't believe in conventional medicine. Well, somebody might want to tell the Cleveland Clinic! DID YOU KNOW? In 2014, the Cleveland Clinic, one of the most respected medical institutions in the U.S, established its Center for Functional Medicine. Yes, THAT Cleveland Clinic! And let's talk about Johns Hopkins. Housed within the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, this center pairs board-certified physicians with nutritionists, acupuncturists, and massage therapists, focusing heavily on digestive disorders, chronic pain, and autoimmune conditions. How about Integrative Medicine and Health at Mayo Clinic? Conventionally trained physicians, including MDs and DOs, are studying and incorporating functional medicine principles into patient care. Many are leaving conventional medicine for functional medicine. Why? Because patients are asking questions that deserve answers. LET'S TALK ABOUT THE DIFFERENCE. Imagine you visit your doctor complaining of fatigue, brain fog, poor sleep, digestive problems, and weight gain. Conventional medicine may evaluate your symptoms, order tests, identify a diagnosis, and recommend medications. That is important. Sometimes it is lifesaving! BUT what happens when the initial testing doesn't explain your symptoms? What happens when you're told everything looks normal, yet you still feel terrible? That is where a broader investigation is helpful. Functional medicine looks at how different systems of the body interact and explores potential contributors to illness. - Gut health and digestion - Gut-brain axis - Nutritional deficiencies - Food sensitivities (not allergies) - Prostate health and inflammation, environmental, and occupational toxins. - Metabolic health and insulin resistance - Hormonal and thyroid function - Sleep and circadian rhythms - Chronic stress and its physiological effects - Environmental and lifestyle exposures - Inflammation and immune function
