Yearly Calendar
Since the start of this year I've been really focusing on not wasting time/days. The days can slip past us too easily with the abundance of doom scrolling we all have to resist. I found myself in years past wondering did I get the most out of this year, what happened to it? I saw a reel of someone talking about how each year should have one yearly defining event it (Unbound for me this year), 6 mini adventures - things you need to plan out otherwise they just pass you by (Camping trip with the kids - Fishing trip father - other significant races etc), and then a new quarterly habit. I have to say it has been really satisfying having started this little project, and seeing what I have coming up. As well as months that I could probably do more in. It's also surprising how many things I have had to turn down already this year because of other commitments. I wanted to share with this group the printable one page calendar I had AI help me make. As well as the method I used to fill it in. I took those little 2 inch sticky note pads, about 4 different colors, cut the sticky top off trimmed it to cover the length of days that the event/activity is and wrote the details on that. I hope this helps you all maximize your year, and have confidence that you are making the most out of it. Cheers

Thank you for sharing! This is brilliant. Will use it!
New Gravel Bike??
Probably can't start planning too early, right? So my current gravel bike has treated me well, but the rear derailleur clutch is busted. If I engage it it makes some very loud noises and does not shift smoothly at all. I had the cables replaced and took it to the LBS I bought it from to service the clutch. They said it looks fine to them and to just not use the clutch... I don't love that advice. Love the store and the people though, they run the local group rides that best suit my riding. So, I am considering replacing the rear mech, changing from a 2x to a 1x? Maybe going electronic. Then when I was talking with my father, he suggested a new bike... who doesn't love someone else encouraging them to get a new bike, haha. My current bike is a Trek Checkpoint Gen 2 SL5.5. I say 5.5 because when I bought this bike I was using it as gravel with road set, and bought the Bontrager rims that come on the SL6. I would love to hear input as to should I just upgrade the drivetrain or if this bike is even a good choice for Unbound 200? I set a most likely unreasonably high goal of making top 200. So bike choice likely makes a meaningful impact in my overall time. I have this compulsion that I should buy from the LBS because of how often I ride with them, but maybe I should just get over that? Their brands are: Trek, Giant, Cervelo, Cannondale.

@Kevin Dalby yes but handlebars is not my cup of tea. Should be useful for very long distance but not sure… I was thinking lore about the Grail with suspension. Bad news is you cannot customize with Canyon…

@Kevin Dalby totally agree.
Position changes since Q&A w/Phil Burt
Anyone else do any micro adjustments to their fit? I lowered my saddle 5mm, and brought my q-factor all the way in. I can’t tell if it actually “feels” different through 3 rides now, but I got a few power PR’s since. Planning to book a video fit for sure, I’m trying to collect all the watts.

@Vern Loebs Jr May I ask you how tall you are ? I am small 154 cm and I could easily go down like to 155 0r 150. But coming from 170 because 9 years ago there were not so many options, I can tell you, it can be pretty wild to make a big jump . But definitely many benefits of going down for me: no more pain in the ankles or hips and the ability to spin faster which is a real plus for climbing. I did not notice a decrease of power, on the contrary. However, making adjustments in terms of fitting can be pretty tough. It is not because you are 10 mm shorter than you necessarily need to increase your saddle height of that and it changes quite a lot your feelings on the bike. I would never come back to 170. It is a shame you cannot adjust crank length on Zwift bike cause it requires me to make some adjustments in terms of position. ( I am much lower and forward) Also you need to pay attention to clear position. Crank length does affect this. But for example, I just feel good with 165 on my gravel. It seems to give a bit more of stability and lever on tricky paths but it is of course less pleasant than 160 when on easy gravel paths or tarmac.

Sorry for the typo, yes it will change your feelings on the cleats. I have put them a lot rearward . In fact shorter crank will affect the way you are pedaling. It took me some time to clean my pedaling style and adjust with new cranks. But now it is really lire clean than with the longer crank
Win of the week
What were you proud of this past week? Any PB’s, weight loss, consistency or just breaking a rut For me it was getting back on the trainer after a crash last week

I have found two new remote paths unlisted on the map with my gravel. When the ground will be less muddy , they will allow me to connect two valleys. I have been looking for a way to do this in this place for months. I was feeling a bit down this morning so decided to ride the gravel instead of the road bike to explore and put some more fun in my z2 training of the day. I came back home really muddy but proud of me. Then spend the rainy afternoon washing my gravel!🤭 I guess I deserve my glass of wine tonight.
Rain on Zwift
I know it might make the experience a little more realistic, but really, does there have to rain and thunder and lightening on Zwift

I have spend most of my rides on Zwift the last 2 weeks because it’s raining too much and then it start raining also on Zwift. So depresssing…. Really need good podcasts or playlists to stay motivated.
