Oh my goodness... where do I even begin? 😂
This community has grown so much over the last few months, and I suddenly realized... I never actually told you who I am! So... hi! I'm Jennifer, and I'm writing from a little town near Barcelona, Spain. 🇪🇸 I'm an American who was born and raised in Mexico City, and these days I live just outside Barcelona, Spain, with my husband, our three children, a dog, a cat, a uromastyx, and a ball python. Needless to say... our house is never boring! 😂 I've been teaching English for more than 20 years, but here's something that usually surprises people... I hated school. Not learning—I loved learning. I hated that school often expected everyone to learn the same way. I was fascinated by questions like... Why do some children thrive while others struggle? How does the brain actually learn? What makes a lesson unforgettable? Those questions led me to study Educational Psychology at Endicott College in Boston, and they've shaped every classroom I've ever taught. Sixteen years ago, I opened my own language school in Spain. I thought I'd probably spend the rest of my career happily teaching English. Then, in February 2022, everything changed. A friend in Ukraine asked if I could teach a few children online. Of course I said yes. I never imagined that one class would grow into Teachers for Peace. Today, we're a global community of volunteer educators who have delivered more than 3,750 free online lessons to 700+ learners, supported by 70+ volunteer teachers across 20+ countries. Some of our teachers live in countries affected by war. Some teach in rural communities. Some work in public schools, language schools, or universities. Others have retired but still want to make a difference. What connects us isn't where we come from—it's what we believe. That education changes lives. And that teachers have an incredible ability to create hope, confidence, and opportunity. That's why I wanted to create this Hub. Not another place filled with endless notifications or perfect-looking classrooms.

Hello and I am finally able to write. First things first! My name is Deborah. I'm Welsh born but lived in Sicily throughout my childhood, travelled a little as a young adult and then settled down in North Italy. I am a dedicated and proud mum of three: Alec is 25 and the twins, Lisa and Marianna, are 22 going on 23. Although we all live far from each other we are still super close. Everything I do, I basically do with them in mind :) My field of expertise is EAL. However, I am teaching Language and Literature in an International IB school at present. This has been (and is) challenging. The school and department AND the whole IB teaching methodology has really taken all my time and burnout has been a true reality for me. I think I am PRO at driving and crying! I have been wanting to give some of my teaching time (the little I have left sadly) to voluntary work since I do tutor online after school. I came across Teachers for Peace in a Global Schools online presentation and...here I am! I haven't got any class yet as I was super honest with Jennifer and explained I need to try and sort myself out after the last couple of years. This summer is so hot that I am finding it difficult to do anything, but I have managed to read a zillion books (sadly almost all grade 6 books were changed as well as some others in other grades so that means reading for teaching!) and listened to some audiobooks for my own pleasure. I am also into Flipped Classroom methodology so am doing a course on that too :) As far as hobbies are concerned, I thankfully love reading! I sing (to myself most of the time!) and listen to music on Spotify. I am an avid Audible listener and have also joined a club for reviewing books to refine my own writing skills. Defects are definitely: over thinking, multitasker and biting my nails particularly when I am marking summatives (and that's all year round lol). I love quotes and proverbs. I love being able to create bonds with students, particularly the more challenging ones. I am a Global Schools Alumni and am really working on getting those SDGs into my units.

📣 Teachers... I need your help!
I've been surrounded by boxes 📦 all week while moving house, and I completely missed our Tuesday and Wednesday calls. 😭 So... next week we're making up for it! ☕ Tuesday, 11th August | 4:00 PM (Madrid) Our Teacher Coffee & Connect is back! But before we meet... 👇 Answer ONE question in the comments: If you could wave a magic wand, what would help you most as a teacher this year? ❤️ Better lesson ideas? 🤖 Learning to use AI? 🌍 Connecting with teachers from around the world? 🎥 Creating your own online course? 💰 Making extra income from your teaching? 🧘 Avoiding burnout? 💬 Something else? There are no wrong answers. I genuinely want to build this community around what YOU need. ⭐ Wednesday – VIP Teacher Hub For our VIP members, we're going one step further. We're building a community that doesn't just help learners... it helps teachers grow too. So here's my question for you... 👇 If we could bring in ONE expert to run a masterclass just for VIP members, who would you choose? What would you love to learn? 🎨 Canva? 🤖 AI? 📱 Social media? 💼 Starting your own academy? 🎤 Public speaking? 🧠 Trauma-informed teaching? 💰 Funding, grants or fundraising? 📚 Something completely different? Drop your ideas below! The Teacher Hub belongs to all of us, and I want to build it around what will help you become the best educator you can be. See you Tuesday! ❤️ Jennifer

Hello there :). I don't think I will be able to make it to our meeting as next week my second daughter is coming to spend a few days before we get back to work and I have never actually stopped preparing for the upcoming school year since I stopped because I wanted to be able to give my 3 children all my attention when they are all here (which doesn't happen often!). However, if things should change I will most definitely connect, otherwise it will have to be in September. To answer the question posed: most definitely connecting with teachers and building a supportive, like-minded community with non-competitive, non judgemental individuals who are there to support. Sending peace from a boiling Italy - survival is hard this summer.
☀️ Anyone up for a Summer Teacher Coffee Chat?
It's been a little quiet here over the summer... and honestly, that's okay. ❤️ I know many of you are enjoying a well-earned break, finishing summer camps, travelling, or simply taking time to recharge before another school year begins. But I thought it might be nice to get together for an informal catch-up. No presentations. No training. No pressure. Just teachers from around the world sharing ideas, stories, and maybe a few laughs over a coffee (or your favourite summer drink ☕🍉). I'd love to hear: 🌍 What are you doing this summer? 💡 What's one idea you're excited to try next year? 🤝 How can this community better support you as an educator? If there's enough interest, I'll organise a relaxed one-hour Google Meet. Would you join? 👍 Yes, I'd love to. ❤️ Depends on the day and time. 💬 Tell me what time zone you're in, and I'll try to make it work for everyone.

@Teachers-Educators for Peace Global Community Hub happy move!! This heatwave is terrible - never ends. The sun is scorching...
Is Anyone Else…?
Is anyone else completely exhausted but also emotional that the year is ending? Every year I reach this point where I’m: 📚 finishing reports 🧠 mentally tired ☀️ thinking about summer plans ❤️ and somehow already missing the students at the same time Teaching is strange like that. Some classes drain us. Some classes change us. And some students quietly stay in our hearts long after the year finishes. So tell us honestly 👇 ✨ What has been the hardest part of this school year for you? ✨ And what is one moment or student you know you’ll remember? (And yes… coffee counts as emotional support right now ☕😂)

As I mentioned to Jennifer in our first online interview, I am recovering from Burnout. Taking part in Teachers for Peace is one of my choices to help me live a better school year as from September.😃
