Tri Bike - Which One?
So I recently had a bike fit and found that the optimum position for me was a long way from what I had been using. The result is my Trek Emonda has been sold (turn out I had a frame size too small). Now caught in a quandary about do I get another road bike I can adapt to fit me then still use later on the road, or get a time trial bike that is dialed into to my fit? I do have a Specialized Diverge that I train on during winter that is actually a great fit for me, and can flip it between gravel and road set up, so not sure I really need a second road bike. Anyway would appreciate thought from those that have TT bikes, I should say that doing my first Ironman distance in July but likely to drop back to Standard and Sprint in coming years. Cheers Tom

Hi Tom. Def right call to get TT as inevitable will be faster like Alan has said. I am not a bike person and loads on this forum will know better than me, but for what worth I have a rim brake Giant Trinity which on holding same power during testing using it and an aero road bike was around 1.5-2km per hr quicker. That is huge over long distance. So same power quicker or less power same speed, and it can be more difficult to put power down on TT bike. Good bike fit is needed and it will need adjusting as you adapt. So much easier to run off a TT bike as well subject to the fitter knowing what they are doing. In terms of going road with clip on skis, will not be as fast on flat course, and only really worthwhile if hilly course and even then. I have tried a stupid fast aero road bike with aerobars and still couldn’t match dialled in Tri bike, even with latter having all the liquids and nutrition onboard. Other thing is cost. TT bikes now are stupid money, all disc brake etc. You can get good second hand Rim Trinity for fair price. Obviously is this is for the long haul that is a factor but if it is a one and done before selling it, look at resale values too of whatever you go for. Other issue is do you have LBS who know make you are buying etc so when anything goes wrong, and it will, you are not running around trying to find someone. Good luck and enjoy.
Mywhoosh vs Zwift vs Rouvy
So far I’ve only used Zwift which is handy for either turbo at home or Wattbike at the gym. Curious if anyone has really dived into mywhoosh or rouvy and if any noticeable pros and cons. I’m going to give mywhoosh a go as it being free is quite appealing and on the face of it seems to do everything Zwift does.

TPV - they are investing heavily in it and it just keeps getting better
Head torches
Went for a run up Arthur’s Seat this morning and whilst we are soon coming out of the darkness in March, thought I should have taken my head torch today. Mine is pretty ropey, bargain basement job, any suggestion on torches that are comfy, decent beam and don’t cost as much as a wetsuit? That aside it was pretty busy up there this morning!

Calorie deficient
If training for races next summer, should you try be calorie deficient through winter or let weight drop naturally with volume of training knowing when spring comes it’s bigger blocks outside? Personally I’m hoping weight just drops naturally though I don’t really think about my weight

@Dennis Doherty great question. Weight seems to be one of those taboo like issues and should be discussed- not like the backlash that followed from what the winner of tdf femmes said. We are happy to drop a few extra quid on the next model of a bike or components which save x amount of grams or kilos. Some on this forum may have purposely cut weight for taking on hillier or mountainous races, or simply to run quicker where weight, at a certain point, can be a huge advantage. But sure people on here can share experiences of it becoming a fixation or suffering injuries or illness or fatigue from under fuelling which leaves you in a hole you don’t get out of especially if long distance endurance training. Hopefully it just works itself out naturally, and what @Alan Cardwell says as ever is right on point. No point being super light but failing or missing sessions as a result. I for one will not need to worry about a deficit as we approach Christmas….
Ironman Training and racing
When we talk Ironman most people default to the 'brand' that bears the name of the original race. For our purposes - its any LONG distance triathlon. XTRI is not Ironman so we will deal with that seperately. Back in the day before things went a bit nuts there were only 5 Ironman events to go at, fast forward and you can go anywhere in the world to do your thing. The big 5 'as was' Kona Germany ( Now challenge Roth) France ( was Gerardmer, then moved to the old ITU long course in Nice) Lake Placid Lanzarote Who is doing what this coming year and who has done what and can give the crew the low down
