Storytelling
Greetings, I have a different question that came to mind while watching your videos. Your content is mainly about drawing and illustrating, but since you’re also a big fan of storytelling, I wanted to ask: do you perhaps have some tips on what to keep in mind? Something like the basics? Personally, I already have an idea of what I want to put on paper, but I’m still lacking the necessary skills—which I can improve thanks to your videos. However, I also don’t want to mess up the story itself. Thanks in advance :D

You are awesome, thank you :)
Backs + Dynamic Figures Added to Human Art Hacks Folder šŸ“‚
A group of muscles often overlooked are all the muscles of the back. I get it, most characters will be shown from the front, but if you need to draw the back, you should be able to. So let’s dive into the back! I would say one of the most common questions I’ve ever received is ā€˜how can I make my characters less stiff?’ Dynamism is an ever elusive target to hit, but worth trying to accomplish in every panel. Let’s dive into it

Just one of this restless Nights where I can’t find sleep. Learning something about dynamics of the body. It’s incredible how calm I get watching this videos. The simplification with the hinges and shapes makes it look so easy. Can’t wait til I can catch my sketch book and pencil and start drawing again and practice. Great video, looking forward to learn more about drawing.

Here's a little bit about me and the whole idea behind Slinging Ink. You are probably here because of the art techniques, practices, or as I like to call them on TikTok, art hacks... BUT. While drawing and helping you be a better technical artist is of course my goal, I have found through interactions with my students, that understanding how to tell a story has seemed to resonate even more. I love traditional materials and processes and in an ever increasing world of 'content over creativity', I want to be able to share my love of story and equip creatives to go out and tell better stories. Are we losing the ability to tell stories that last? Do we have the tools necessary to make stories of substance? With impact? We have a generation of artists coming up that are talented and have loads of creativity and don't know what to do with it. While they may be talented with a great idea for a story, without the right tools it stays in creative limbo. You can read comics, manga, and watch movies, but if that is the only guidance you have to making your story a reality; at best, you will have a pseudo-copy, derivative of the source material, and at worst; a hollow shell of a story that lacks the substance needed to make your audience care. Nobody wants that. In short, I want Slinging Ink Studio to be the go-to resource for creatives who want to not only grow in their technical art skills, but also be challenged to tell stories with substance. My love is for sequential art, and the examples will be catered toward comic storytelling, but the concepts and principles extend far beyond sequential art. Art informs art. Take the tools and principles and write, draw or film. Create stories with substance. Care about what you make, because if you don't care, why would an audience? With that being said, there is so much coming that I am excited to have a place share, but for now enjoy the free resources and let's get to work. N. Colin Dyer

In Germany we say: a lesson stands and falls with the teacher. Your videos and explanations are as easy to understand as sitting in a good class where everything is explained clearly and simply. That shows you must be a great teacher. I lost my passion for drawing 20 years ago. The input from the internet was so overwhelming that I set my priorities elsewhere and lost sight of myself, because I stopped nurturing my own creativity. Now that I am a father myself and get to witness how wonderful childlike imagination is—how it can be put on paper and shared—I truly want to get better, because I’ve rediscovered my passion. Picking up my enthusiasm for storytelling again and seeing how creativity helps me to rediscover my lost self with the help of your videos—it’s impossible to put into words how much gratitude I feel.
