The color of safety
Implementing code words is a subtle yet powerful way to enhance safety within your family and business. By incorporating simple colors like blue or red into everyday sentences, you can discreetly signal a need for law enforcement or emergency assistance without alerting an aggressor. For example, asking someone to grab the blue file or telling a child to put away their red football provides a clear call to action while maintaining a calm exterior. The most effective safety plans are the ones that stay fresh in your mind so I suggest reviewing these phrases once a quarter alongside your other emergency protocols. Consistency is key to ensuring everyone knows exactly how to respond when every second counts.

@Robert Wylie When I was active duty we used to say, "I see you're carrying the football" when they were the ones in trouble. 😂
A Case for Privacy in the Digital Age - The Threat is Real—and Accelerating
The Threat is Real—and Accelerating Every 4.9 seconds, someone becomes a victim of identity theft in the United States. In 2024, over 1.1 million identity theft complaints were reported, and nearly 30% of Americans have experienced identity theft at some point in their lives. Nearly 47% of victims who contacted the Identity Theft Resource Center had been victimized more than once, making this a recurring nightmare rather than a one-time incident. Bad actors are everywhere. Thanks to the world wide web, there is no limit to attempted theft, harassment, or being taken advantage of. The digital threat landscape has become truly global. According to the World Cybercrime Index, most cybercrime originates from just six countries, with Russia, Nigeria, China, India, and Romania leading in various categories of digital crime. Nigeria remains infamous for advance-fee fraud and romance scams, while Russia hosts some of the world's most skilled ransomware operators and banking malware developers. India has become a hub for tech-support fraud and fake loan schemes, with the FBI reporting over 88,000 complaints related to tech support scams in 2023 alone. Chinese criminal networks specialize in "pig-butchering" schemes—long-term manipulations that lead to fraudulent cryptocurrency investments—while Southeast Asian scam compounds have become industrial operations, with criminals earning $3 trillion annually from scams and fraud globally, far outpacing income from the global illicit drug trade. To say nothing about exposure to the less likely but far more disruptive devious methods like stalking, targeting for tiger kidnapping (where someone holds a friend or family member hostage, requiring you to do illegal activities on their behalf), or marking a member of your family for the globally expanding human trafficking industry. That's why in this article we're going to look at the main 2 objections that I hear most often and how to maintain more privacy, specifically protecting critical information without the overwhelm.

Great article! I look forward to the future episodes. Mark37 has some great products and he does a good job of teaching people what these "data brokers" do with your information. I think the problem is that even if people start to wake up to their vulnerabilities, (and they may be judging by everything I've seen lately about Microsoft) they don't understand the tech they already own and aren't willing to learn the new stuff. I work in IT for a government contractor so although I'm not a cyber security engineer, I am aware of some of the threats we face. In my home, I've switched everyone to Linux on their computers and use a VPN, (although I want to purchase a new router that will allow me to install the VPN there to enforce it's use by everyone and we each have a password safe that we use. I personally rock a GraphineOS phone but I can't get my wife or son to do so. They are both in the category I mentioned earlier and as long as I'm around, they don't feel the need to learn it. Add to this government and corporate governance/requirements for monitoring PCs and remote phone management which limits the platforms they can manage coupled with Google and Apples increasing requirements for app developers to write code that only works on their OS and making it much more difficult for people to switch to Open Source solutions.
The Mozambique Drill - When Center Mass Isn't Enough
"Speed is fine, but accuracy is final." — Wyatt Earp That old gunfighter wisdom captures exactly why I teach the Mozambique Drill to every executive protection client who comes through Grey Man Academy. Two shots to the chest, one to the head. It's not about being flashy—it's about being final. The Mozambique Drill trains you for the moment when your "A-game" still isn't stopping the threat. Here's the tactical logic: It’s good practice to always engage center mass first—the chest presents the largest target with vital organs. Under stress, when your fine motor skills diminish and threats are moving unpredictably, you need the highest probability of effective hits. Simple physics and anatomy. But what happens when those chest shots don't stop the threat fast enough? Maybe body armor is involved—increasingly common in active shooter situations. Maybe the threat is chemically enhanced or is running body armor. This is where hope becomes a liability. The head shot isn't random. I'm targeting the ocular region specifically—the area between the eyebrows and upper lip. This provides the most direct path to the medulla oblongata at the brain stem. A hit here means instant incapacitation without muscular clenching reflexes. The technical execution matters as much as the concept. Trigger reset discipline, minimal travel between shots, and rapid target transition from chest to head. My cold demonstration time of 2.37 seconds isn't my best time, and it sure isn’t showing off—it's about proving the technique works under realistic conditions. For armed professionals and responsible citizens, the Mozambique Drill isn't about tactical theater. It's about building systematic problem-solving habits when stopping a determined threat becomes absolutely necessary. Because in a real defensive encounter, speed might get you started, but accuracy—at the right target—is what gets you home. @Michael Caughran I’m old school. I more likely in a threat situation go center mass and work up. I only brought that up because I saw a YouTuber constantly saying, “shoot them in the dick”. LOL

Foundations Meeting
We've started something local to Spokane area, by invite only, a brotherhood. A gathering for encouragement and discussions of faith for Christ centered men. It also serves as a continuation training outlet for defensive skills. I've included the flier for more info as well, I'll be posting content from the group as well as resources from discussion. All members who attended are encouraged to use this, (Post in new "Development Group" category) as a way to share encouragement, gear or anything that the Lord leads you to. For those in the area that haven't made it, but want to, just DM me. We keep time/location specifics to a Signal group chat. This is by invitation only but costs nothing besides your valuable time. I also wanted to showcase what we're doing in our local area in case others outside of our area are interested in starting a group with similar mission statement, this thread serves as an example of what could be done. Our mission statement is: "Development Group is an invite only, brotherhood of Christian men committed to spiritual growth and mutual accountability. Our Mission: As iron sharpens iron, we challenge and encourage one another to walk boldly with the lord and embrace our calling as men, brothers, husbands, fathers and especially as protectors.”

Wish we had something similar here in north Florida.

@Michael Caughran I’ve actually thought about it. The place is going to be my biggest issue since I would also like to do other training as well, (think stop the bleed, self protection, survival skills, etc).
Every Day Carry (EDC) Considerations for the Responsibly Armed Citizen
P – Primary Projectile A – Alternate Blade C – Contingency Less than lethal E – Emergency Bare Hands Let’s pull back the curtain and examine what this could mean with each. Primary. As for everything in the life saving equipment category, I recommend the best and most reliable and highest functioning gear within your budget. We discussed the idea of a baseline vs ideal. Or effective vs effective and efficient which varies with time/place but knowing what you should strive to carry for you and having matching skills is very important. Primary should always be the most “killy” (technical term) but it will depend on what you have with you, (Can’t always carry concealed handgun while traveling) and how proximate distance to threat(s). (I.e. if your at contact distance, I don’t recommend going for your gun when you have decent empty hand or knife skills) As a rough outline, for our purposes this will be a modern, magazine fed handgun of 9mm or higher caliber. (Personally not a fan of revolvers or the 380 cartridge or something similarly wimpy) Of course, you do you Boo, this is just my definition. Should include a reliable holster. Bonus points if it’s quick to draw from, concealable, able to deploy with both hands, from seated position, or lying on your back. (BTW the Inside the Waiste Band (IWB) appendix holster fits all of the above for most) Now as a baseline, this should be something that you can depend your life on, while carrying a round in the chamber, (AKA not a Sig P320 or High Point) Hopefully we’re all in agreement so far. When it comes to what is ideal in this category, I opt for a full frame (Not as easy to conceal, but better magazine capacity and easier to perform with) 9mm, with RMR, Weapon Light, threaded barrel for suppressor… insert your favorite add on here. Something that you can really perform with, even when the threats deserve an extra serving of lead, or you have to operate under less than ideal circumstances. Also a back up mag, both filled with quality hollow points, (this video was helpful comparison on that note. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bgvrzHV73rI) I carry G9 but again, it’s your choice.

Nice to see someone offer up other options than BJJ for hand to hand. I believe TFT is a much better option. Same goes for SCARS, (which I believe is the foundation for TFT as they are the ones that developed the Seals combative program. That and Tim was one of my instructors there).
