Producer 101- Notes Comparison Discussion?
I know some of you have already done this. I know some are on it right now. I am curious as to how/what you guys did or got to and such. I mean there is no one but ourselves checking out our work, unless we do a mentor call right? Well, we can check each others work out and then we can leave the more important things or whatever it may be for mentor calls. Though these are basics and probably as important as anything else, however trivial it may seem. Reference track analyses/eqing, do you guys build your profile with whole song, then eq by comparing the profiles? Or just parts of it here and there? Limiting to RMS -9, Did you do this over the entirety of the song, or by analyzing parts of the song? how did you go about achieving it? Some analyzers are momentary, and some build upon the value. Were you happy with the results after compression/saturation/EQ etc and then Limiting to -9RMS? Did you feel the changes were sufficient to the song mixes, or do you feel that they're just showing us some processes to ensure we understand what the tools do, to move forward? Something to get us all interacting I hope. \m/ I wasn't quite happy with the results I got, so I didn't bother saving the files even. But if you guys would like to check it or compare, I'll just redo a bit later when/if I get that chance. I redid it, not quite sure if it suffices. I struggled more this time, probably because I am not feeling too well and using different tools this time around. Personally... I don't even know what to think about it. https://drive.google.com/file/d/15SGlSUEk46TsGoM32lsLV50Zr-dJP-ef/view?usp=sharing

@Jasper Labuschagne maybe you should master your copy first. What kind of referencing are you using? Phones or speakers? Correction software? Treated room? Those choices are important.

Hmmm... @Jasper Labuschagne you know and correct me if I am wrong here but I didn't see a link to your version of this song posted publicly. I'd be happy to continue to compare notes with you on your version and put it on my scope and provide feedback and constructive criticism etc. I'm not getting much value out of this discussion looking at your spectrum screenshots without hearing anything. Otherwise see you in another thread!
How music got loud - the video (Waves production)
For those that didn't get this in email - see this great video on the loudness wars! https://youtu.be/n1k1fgtwylQ

@Garry Simmons I was focused on DJ'ing for some of the loudness wars so I have never actually used the L1 or L2. Since focusing on mastering I of course ran into the issue of loudness in my mastering lessons and practice. I must have trialed every limiter on the market I could find looking for a one plugin solution to loudness. I basically learned that that equation is part mix and part master if you want to just slap on the 'best' limiter at the end. This year its more about refinement. I have a few go to limiters and a few more 'hardware' style that could be used before a brick wall limiter for two or more steps to a target loudness for a track.
BOTS
I'm am fairly certain that there are AI bots posing as users here. It seems they are posting as "newbie" users that hope they are welcome and are trying to gather personal information about others by asking a bunch of odd/personal questions. One of them asked me about my family. WTF. I know of two accounts that have exactly the same profile message and are posting oddly worded messages. There is (at least) a third one acting similarly. It's also odd how they manage to get to Level 3 status when the account has only existed for a day or two. They might not be breaking any "rules" to get deleted (yet), but be careful about what you share or taking chats offline somewhere with them to "get to know each other better"... My "scam" spidey senses are tingling...

Agreed. Blocked.
Wordpress theme for website
I'm struggling to build a website. I'm using HostGator and wordpress. Does anyone have a recommended wordpress theme? I'm currently using YITH Wonder and it won't let me replace the front page image. I used AI to create a new image for the home page. I replaced and saved it, but it still has the original picture of an orange slice. I can go back into the edit mode and see my picture that I saved, but when I go to the home page it's still the old picture. I've worked in wordpress before, but it's been awhile. I don't remember it being this difficult. Anyone have advice on this?

Thanks for the post @Katie Oswald ! I was wondering the same thing regarding web design as I didn't see any obvious way to have a customized background and template. The normal google search hits left me thinking I might not get the exact result I wanted. I will look into the bandzoogle option to see if this is what I'm looking for!

@Greg Price thanks for the link!!
Struggling (all my life, it seems) with de-essing
Hey all, one thing I've noticed is that esses sound different (and worse/lispier) when the volume is low. Anyone else have this same perception, and why is that? What are your go-to de-essers? I've tried BSA's DSR, XVox Pro's De-esser (in the vocal chain), Izotope RX-11 De-ess, and iZotope Nectar 4 DeEsser with really no luck.

@Mark G That one sits squarely in the necessary tool category I feel (De-essing, resonance or multiband compression etc). You don't necessarily need one on every mix but worth having when you do. The Weiss just has a good sound to it and is intuitive and fast to use.

@Jacob Mattos thanks for this post! I recently realized that the Weiss desser I got earlier this year can run a midhigh band and a high band simultaneously. Like 1k -5k and then 5k+. You mentioned running two deessers at once so just mentioning it.
