Day 7 ✅ 75 hard - First week reflections
What a week. Every morning has been below zero with a mix of rain and snow, and for my outdoor workouts, I’ve chosen running every single day. I hate running, which is exactly why I’m doing it. If this challenge is meant to be hard, I might as well test my mind properly. The fasting (12–16 hours) has felt surprisingly good. I thought it would be a real struggle after some heavy binge eating over Christmas and New Year, but it’s been manageable even energising. Already, I can see a visible difference between my Day 1 and Day 7 progress photos. Taking those photos is uncomfortable, but seeing progress that early makes it worth it. My afternoon workouts have been more varied: weights, calisthenics, swimming… and tomorrow’s indoor workout will be a spin class I’ll get paid to teach, a nice role reversal! Morning indoors, evening outdoors. I’ve also added daily yoga (20–40 minutes) and a 10-minute meditation before breaking my fast. These have become anchors for the day. The hardest part so far? Drinking a full gallon of water. You’ve got to start early, and since I filter my water, it means multiple trips to the top floor to refill (bonus steps). Even as I write this, I’m eyeing my half-full tank for tomorrow, one less task for the morning! The most enjoyable part has been reading in bed, currently diving into a book on Stoicism, which is a fascinating philosophy and a perfect companion for this challenge. Nutrition has been dialled in too hitting my calorie target (1750–2250) every day. I nearly under-ate once, but managed to make up for it. The progress pictures are easy to forget too, lesson learned: plan ahead. That’s probably the biggest takeaway so far: planning is everything. Start early, go to bed early which is surprisingly easy after two or three workouts a day 😅 Let’s see what next week brings (hopefully better weather). I’ll keep sharing updates when I can between this challenge and everything else I’m juggling. One major thing I’ve noticed already: 75 Hard forces you to focus on what’s truly important today. Between the rules and client work, there’s no time for procrastination. Those little distractions vanish and what’s left is a well-oiled machine, fuelled by plants. 🌱
