Question
Hi everybody! Do you turn off the solar system when you clean it?

@Kim Verduyckt That’s true — the panels will always generate DC when exposed to sunlight. But isolating the DC and turning off the inverter isn’t about stopping generation; it’s about stopping current from flowing into the system and creating a safe environment for maintenance. You’re not “turning off” the sun, but you are making sure the power doesn’t go anywhere dangerous. Standard and essential safety step.

The open-circuit voltage is still present at the panel terminals, but current doesn’t flow unless a circuit is completed — and that's what turning off the isolators prevents.
Question
Can I clean panels with a glass scraper? I have some ash that I can't clean with a brush, so I guess I need to use something stronger to remove it.

That might be a bit too aggressive , try a plastic scraper and lots of water for lubrication ,would be less chance of damage.
LRA
Hi, I’ve tried LRA on only one job with heavily impacted lichen growth on the panels. I tried 3 applications of LRA at the recommended dilution rate and 15 min wait before rotary brushing with only minimal success. Not very happy as each application is like $20 worth! Am I going doing something wrong? Should I try a 1in 5 mix? Any tips? Cheers Richard

Was exactly my experience and then found it was evaporating quicker than it could soak in. After all that i still had to use my plastic scraper to remove it. it took twice as long with LRA as i had to wait 20 min for it to soak in , but it didn't and still needed scraping. Since that experience i have found removing lichen should just be lots of water for lubrication and a plastic scraper. I didnt see any benefit on using LRA, not here in QLD where it evaporates quicker than it absorbs.
What’s one piece of equipment you regret NOT buying sooner?
I’m just starting out in the solar cleaning industry and want to avoid wasting money on gear I don’t need — or missing out on tools that would make my life easier.

24 volt orbital brush, will save your wrist and half your time. I waited 2 years and developed carpal tunnel in both wrist before realising this.

Soiling banding or water pooling stain, once the baked on for a while they start to etch into the glass and cannot be removed. When it baked on and etches into the glass You can`t clean it , the damage has already been done. nothing from chemitek is going to unetch the glass. You can however prevent it from getting any worse with more regular cleaning and solar syphon clips.
