Plein air on Fripp Island
What can I do to make this more interesting and colorful? I want to trash this because it’s just not going anywhere . But at the same time, I’d like to figure out how to fix it. Any suggestions would be appreciated.. I feel like I’m at a point in my oil painting that I’m not improving and I’m getting discouraged. However, I am not a quitter.

@Johan Krijgsman I think those are great suggestions. I will definitely try them. Definition of insanity….. I kept piling on my green…. getting the same blah result.

That is great. Figure painting can be tricky.
Norris Lake
This is an oil painting of the lake I live on in East Tennessee. I need help with my water reflection, but other than that, I’m pretty happy with it. Constructive criticism and/or advice is welcome. Reference photo included. Painting picture updated this is the final pass.

@Carol Pinski painting clouds in general. I rarely paint skies exactly as I see them. I have to fight the tendency to make repetitive shapes. .

@Carol Pinski I love this Gamblin color. These are all earth tones but the violet is great for shadows and skies

How do I get realistic color of water passing through the lower branches? First I had it looking like snow now it is just a mess. Picture on right is reference
