Has anyone else not received their feedback?
I've tried to chase Issy but not received a response yet, I wonder if anyone else knows what's going on or a new ETA?

Query letters - London Book Fair
Morning all, I managed to get to the Writers' Summit at the London Book Fair last week, and was on a roundtable discussion with a literaty agent. I asked her how much detail to include, about the story, in a query letter. She said the main thing is that it demonstrates the main question within the story. Acccording to her, there is no definitive rule as to whether we should focus on the inciting incident and/or the climax, as long as the question being answered by the story is clear and compelling. I hope this helps.

@Gabby Martini yes, there were a few good tips. Did you get much out of it? I didn't have time to go to the main fair so I missed out.

@Kathryn Brown it was interesting, quite exciting to see Kit de Waal speaking on a panel. She is so humble and down to earth for such an incredible author.
Publication options
Is it ever a good idea to accept a hybrid publication offer?

I've just started a CityLit course on how to get published, and the advice the course leader gave (he's a traditionally published author), is that indie publishing is okay if you have a lot of time to promote and sell your own book, as you don't get that service included in the deal. You would need to go out to book fairs and other relevant events and try to sell your book on a stand, promote and sell your work on social media, and talk to bookshops directly to convince them to stock your book.
Query letters
Hello all, I keep reading conflicting views on what should go into a query letter, so wondered what the group thinks. Should the pitch focus on the inciting incident or the plot climax? And what is the right amount of detail?

@Juno Baker me too, but I think that's the easy part. Knowing how to hook them is the tougher part, for me. And how much detail they want in terms of the plot.

@Juno Baker that would set out the premise well but I think you'd need to include more about the stakes and the tension - why these things matter to your protagonist.
Exercises to flex writing muscles
Hello everyone. Just wondering, do any of you ever do writing exercises? In the past, I've found them fun and useful for freeing up my brain and subconscious etc. I was thinking I should do some, so looking for new ones. Can you recommend any?

I used to love Kate Grenville's The Writing Book for that, and I think I should get back into it as I keep changing my mind on what I want to write next so I need a way into my next project. Thanks for this reminder!
