Client Retention: What Keeps People Coming Back?
I’ve been reflecting on client retention and the long-term value of supervised high-intensity strength training, and I’d be interested in hearing about your experiences. I work as an independent personal trainer in a commercial gym, where clients can use the same equipment and train independently. Unlike in a dedicated HIT studio, personal training is an optional service. Some clients stay for years. Others gradually stop scheduling sessions, even when they’ve made progress and expressed satisfaction with the training. Some simply want to learn how to train effectively and eventually feel confident doing it themselves. This has made me reconsider how I select clients and communicate the value of ongoing supervision. I’m particularly curious: - Client selection: How do you identify people who are likely to value a long-term training relationship? - Retention: Have you asked former clients why they stopped? What did you learn? - Ongoing value: How do you communicate the benefits of continued supervision once clients understand the method and can perform the exercises independently? I’m also interested in whether trainers operating in commercial gyms experience different retention challenges from those running dedicated HIT studios. I’d especially appreciate hearing what you’ve actually tried, what worked, and what didn’t. Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences!

@Logan Herlihy thank you for taking the time also. I’ll let it all sink in.
Type 1 diabetes clients
Has anyone here worked with clients who have type 1 diabetes? I’m especially interested in thought about exercise selection, total systemic demand, glucose stability, and recovery. My current thinking is that fewer exercises may create a smaller disruption in glucose metabolism than a full-body session, but I’d like to hear from coaches who’ve actually worked with T1D clients in practice. I’m not looking for medical advice here, more coaching experience.
Tracking Group Workouts
How do you track your group workouts? Pen & paper? Software? Please comment! Bonus points for screen shots of your tool of choice! FYI @Logan Bayless

@Lawrence Neal I don't do groups, but if I would, I would teach them to keep their own journals using the Fitness app.
