What stress loop do you want to close out this weekend?
Open loops drain our energy. When we leave tasks half-done, conversations hanging, or minor worries unresolved, our brains keep running them in the background of everything we do. What is one stress loop you need to close out so you can rest? It could be: - A task like sending that one email you’ve been avoiding. - A boundary such as turning off your work notifications at 5 PM sharp. - Or a mindset like forgiving yourself for something that didn't go too well this week.

I have a meeting with my new principal on Tuesday to discuss my request for a different evaluator. I haven’t had a real conversation with her yet and my brain can’t stop looping on what I want to say and playing the potential conversation through my head. I don’t know how to close the loop before the meeting occurs.
Sunday Scaries
Hi all, I just made a post about the Sunday Scaries and I think we should turn them into Sunday Experiences. These are things we look forward to during the week. I love doing a face mask once a week, but I dont have a set schedule for them so Im going to add them into my Sunday bedtime routine where I do a face mask and read for pleasure only during that time! Whats yours?

I love this idea!! I’m going to take a hot bath before bed and read a book while soaking.

@Carolyn Contreras it definitely helped me sleep well!
It's Friday!
What is one thing you are going to do this week to recover? Im going to hang out with my girlfriends tomorrow and I can't wait to laugh with them. There is something so special about laughing with friends.

@Levi Thurman we are! I never really believed I would find someone that I would want to go through all of this with.

@Carolyn Contreras I knit shawls and just finished my first sweater. I’m newer to crochet and have made a few blankets.
Hey, welcome in!
I'm glad you're here. Tell us in the comments, What part of the day do you dread most? What do/did you teach and what grade? How well do you know your nervous system?

I dread the school year starting and losing all the progress I've made this summer. I teach 9th gr Hon Intro Chem & 11/12 gr Chemistry (Non-Honors). I have spent this summer learning my nervous system. I realized I am hypervigilant and I spent the last few weeks learning how to spot it and step away from it and the change in my level of calm is nothing short of miraculous. Preplanning begins on Monday and the kids come back on Wednesday.
Say hi. Tell us three things.
I'll start. I'm Carolyn. I've been a teacher, behavior specialist, professional development coordinator and a few other things along the way. When I left teaching, I felt like a failure. It took me a long time to understand that I couldn't stay because I was living in a constantly activated state, and it wasn't just showing up at work. It was showing up in how I parented, too. Your turn.

I’m Cris. I’m a high school chemistry teacher and EdD doctoral candidate for STEM leadership. I’m studying math anxiety in chemistry students. I’m also a mom to three grown kids. I finally reached my breaking point last year, my 21st teaching, after my father passed away suddenly when my sister and I were visiting. I tried, unsuccessfully, to revive him. That trauma and multiple challenging groups of students broke me. This summer I took the entire break to rest, recover and reset.

@Carolyn Contreras thank you so much. For the first time in many years, I do feel ready. A big part of that is from doing your Summer Reset and reading your book “it’s not you, it’s your nervous system”. I realized I was ALWAYS in a hyper vigilance state and it was draining all of my energy and making me question everything. Once I was able to see it, name it and start to step away from it….life has been so very different. There is still a lot of work to be done, but my goal this year is to try to catch when I’m coming out of my regulated state and slowing it down. Ice cubes are loaded in every freezer I have access to!
