Drop weight
How do you guys drop weight in a healthy way? I’m currently 135 lbs, but I want to drop it to 125. I don’t want to do fasting cuz I like to eat. šŸ˜‚

So fun fact, I was reading literature on this last week. The data shows that rapid weight loss can have a negative impact on performance, especially if you're trying to cut more than 5% of your body weight in 2 weeks or less. If you are doing rapid weight loss, increasing training with liquid restrictions has the least impact on performance as long as you have more than an hour, ideally more than 3 hours, between weigh in and your match. Then you need to carb load and hydrate with about 1.5L for every Kg lost. The ideal way is portion control and trying to aim for about 1-2 Kg per week. As it pertains to diet trends and performance, most of the hot diets right now will negatively impact performance, i.e. keto, carnivore, paleo, gluten free.... However, one dietary pattern that did show promising data that improved performance was the Mediterranean diet, which showed subjective improvement with muai thai athletes. Here is the NASM guidelines for planning a weight loss plan as it pertains to finding your target weight goal. https://www.nasm.org/resources/calorie-calculator#:~:text=Men:%20(10%20%C3%97%20weight%20in,%C3%97%20age%20in%20years)%20%2D%20161 A quick formula for the same thing would be target weight x 12-13 = daily calories total

The other 2 methods that were looked at were sitting in saunas and using diuretics to drop water weight. Keep in mind that diuretics can cause serious health issues as most flush out your body of potassium and is banned in sports (as is most of the supplements many bjj athletes use)
App to track training
Hey everyone. A guy at my gym released this FREE app to track your sessions and track your other studying like bjjfanatics. You can upload videos/photos, he has been doing a screen record on the technique then uploading it to the app and adding notes same with the random youtube videos/reels he sends to himself. He was a little agitated about an app trying to charge him $100/year (for a crappier version of the app he made) so me made his own. He had about 300 beta testers and 150ish still use the app actively after 2 months. Seems like white and blue belts get the most help from this. Wanted to share it with all of you for those that like to see the data of their training to track patterns or holes in their training. Below are the links to the apps for Android and that other crappy knockoff phone called apple. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jparrack.flowjitsu&pli=1 https://apps.apple.com/us/app/flowjitsu/id6757253111
Tournament Photos
Hey Jiu Jitsu for Anyone fam šŸ‘ŠšŸ„‹ If you competed yesterday, drop your photos in the comments šŸ“øšŸ”„ I think everyone showed up and did well—win or lose, the effort and heart were there. Huge shoutout to Professor Ian for taking 2nd in the absolute division and almost edging out the #3 competitor in the world. That match was šŸ”„ā€”high level, technical, and a reminder of how close the margins are at the top. But more than medals and placements, the most important thing? We showed up, we tested ourselves, and we had FUN doing it. That’s what this journey is about. Proud of this team. OSS šŸ¤™šŸ„‹ Drop those pics šŸ‘‡šŸ’Ŗ

Mat burn
I have a big nasty mat burn on my foot near the bunion. I got it last Saturday and it never heals as it busts open every time after rolls. What should I do to let it heal faster? 😩 Should I still roll or just do light rolls to let it heal? 🄲

I typically just wash mine and then stay shoeless as often as I can. The air helps it dry out and acap so it doesnt catch on the mat at next class. I dont have any other magical snake oil, I just noticed after a while it healed up and I get them less often now.
Favorite takedowns?
This seemed to be a hot topic yesterday. What is everyone's favorite/most successful takedowns? Or do you prefer to pull guard? In all honesty I need to practice takedowns more but I think I have that initial anxiety about getting in close or going for a takedown and then getting sprawled on lol. I also don't particularly like pulling guard cuz I'm probably one of the smallest dudes at our dojo - I only weigh like 160 so being stuck under 200 lbs sucks. What are your most low risk/high reward takedowns or throws?

The coach at my normal class almost always starts class with some sort of Judo throws that have limited risk in bjj. A lot of foot sweep stuff. As a result, I typically am looking for a foot sweep of some sort. I dont mind getting in close since I'm like 5'7 but hover around 200 pounds, so most of my opponents tower over me. As a result, keeping distance hurts me since they always have a longer reach.
