Peas...
My peas this year haven't done so well.... How about everyone else?

I had a lot of difficulty getting mine to germinate this year but now they’re going they’re looking alright. After about 5 years of pea failures, either from wind damage or animal and birds stripping them, I now grow them in a poly tunnel. It’s just one of those cheap Outsunny ones with the plastic cut down half way for wind protection and then covered with bird netting. It’s not my favourite style of growing but I do love my mushy peas so it’s a sacrifice I’m willing to make!
Slugs and snails
Hi guys I’ve been up since early this morning collecting slugs and snails from around the gardens tunnels and green house Yesterday was so hot they were all out as the sun dropped to get food and water and caused huge carnage I’m completely chemical free so one of my only defences is being there and picking them off one at a time I do use frass from Mad Company that is ground soldier ants that gives on a fragrance that slugs hate Keep a watch out guys as someone always wants to eat your hard work What do you use against pests in your countries ?

I’m going to be installing an electroculture system on my allotment this autumn. I get slugs, snails, black fly, rabbits, squirrels, foxes, mice and ants as the main culprits on my allotment. I’m keeping a journal so next year I will be able to report back any findings in pest reduction from my electroculture adventure if anyone is interested.
Weather extremes
Hi everyone. Im not sure about you, but these weather extremes are exhausting! The brassicas are in their elements,as is everything inside the polytunnel. However we have lost all the fruit on the fruit trees due to the wind (and heat a couple of weeks ago),which is so sad. I wonder if there is going to be a fruit shortage this year? Dont get me wrong, on the flip side, im grateful for all the rain,as the IBC's are filling, and that is precious. How are you all doing so far? are you having similar problems? whats growing well for you and what isnt?

I’m having trouble with my broccoli bolting. I’ve lost about five of them to seed. They really don’t like this up and down weather.
Nemaslug
Hi good people wondered what are your experiences with Nemaslug . I usually wonder around at midnight with my head torch a pair of tweezers and a jam jar but getting a new knee on Thursday so will be unable to go safari for at least 6 weeks . I really don't want to lose the little bits I have managed to grow . They seem quite expensive any info appreciated

I used one of the nema products. I think it was the one for black fly. It didn’t really help and I found out afterwards that it only really works well in an enclosed area as the nemas tend to wander off. I did read an interesting article about planting wildflowers. It was concerned with large scale farming but the found that if farmers planted wildflowers not just around the edge of their fields but through the centre as well it had a marked reduction in pest problems by encouraging predators of pests into the area. If you’re able to have a pond then frogs and newts are great slug hunters. I have one on my allotment and they act as my night watchmen.
Simple cauliflower 'rice' recipe
Healthier than white rice. Remove leaves and stalk, chop or grate the florets until the size of grains of rice (or pulse in a food processor), put into pan, drizzle with 2tbsp oil, cover and steam over low heat for 5-10 minutes stirring regularly, season with salt and pepper, serve immediately.

I used to make that! I tried the keto diet for vegetarians and a lot of the recipes I used were made with cauliflower rice. My favourites were the cauliflower quesadillas and cheesy cauliflower garlic bread. It’s really versatile. 😊
