Never quite enough room. Well, time to spread outside. God, I hope the weather agrees.
Recognize that Tool?
Woodworking has changed a lot through the years. We have tools available to us today that they wouldn't even recognize 100 years ago. For that matter, a lot of them didn't exist back when I started woodworking. There are also tools that they used 100 years ago, which none of us have in our kit. I just bought this antique. It was obviously made by a blacksmith, as we can see the seam on the inside of the eye, where he wrapped the metal strap around and welded it. A reproduction might have the hammer marks on the blade, but not that seam. Also, it's got a wood wedge in the handle, rather than a metal one. Believe it or not, I actually didn't just buy this for my tool wall; but to do a couple of projects that it's the ideal tool for. So, I'll be cleaning it up a bit and sharpening it; hopefully without messing up the patina on it. In the mean time, does anyone but me know what this is called? What's it used for (real or humorous answers)? This isn't a contest, but let's have some fun with it.

It's a froe. It's a wood splitting tool and frequently used to make wood shingles.
Ten Tools under $10
Just finished watching Rich's Ten Tools under $10 video and found it quite interesting. I also realized that I didn't have all 10 tools, but had most of them. Since EVERYTHING is getting more costly, I did a search of https://www.temu.com and came up with the following: But before you jump over to Temu, check out the tools available right here on Sawinery, this is how this site is able to continue to give us the benefits of a free platform to learn from each other.

I have to admit that I am one of those who prefer to purchase in person. I much prefer to go to the store where I can physically look at and touch what I am purchasing before putting my money on the counter.
Antique Tools
Every once in a while, someone asks me about the tools hanging on the wall behind me. Those are antique tools that I've collected over the years. I'm not a serious antique tool collector, as I have too many other things to spend my money on; but I like them. More than anything, I'm interested in how they used to do things. Technology has changed woodworking; just like it has changed many other things. Does anyone else out there collect antique tools or have an interest in antique tools?

All my antique tools are drafting tools/instruments.
This One Surprised Me
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mIFyxj-rr6o I know there are a lot of people out there who hate Harbor Freight; but sometimes they can surprise you. I recently tried out one of their tools, which reshaped my thinking a bit. Let me explain. It might surprise you, as much as it has surprised me.

I have good luck with many Harbor Freight tools and blades.

I'm a self-employed drafter designer. I just recently have been able to get a small barn (12x20) to use as a woodworking shop.
