How close to bottom do you fish?
I was out with my kayak and got skunked. Stocked trout pond. Guys fishing from shore were catching a bunch. I tried spoons, crankbait. Another kayaker said he was using dry flys and caught a couple trout. I want to maybe anchor my kayak and do a bobber. Any advice?

This is a tough one to answer without more info. There are too many factors to consider. What would I do? I would start with what I'm most confident in and start looking for clues as to what factors might affect the behaviors of the fish.

FYI, @Paul Yetto goes over lots of specific scenarios in his Skool group explaining when and why to use different techniques, including depth, time of day, and locations to give you a full arsenal of strategies to add to your tackle box. He's also currently developing an app to help make all of these decisions easier and more efficient and effective. 🐟🎣

@Silas Amlaw Go get em Silas. Good luck. I haven't caught any of those species yet. A halibut would be awesome!

@Silas Amlaw nice haul brother! I bet those mats help a ton. Are these designed specifically for boats, or are they the same mats commonly used on land?

Compact Light Rod
Hey, I sold my car and have been going fishing using Transit. Looking for a compact rod that I can take on a bus. Amazon has a couple of these pen sized compact rods. Has anyone used them before? Been making videos is anyone is interested. https://youtu.be/-cYWNNL-SDk?si=t0Ii-98Ae4LzCcew

Welcome to the group Jon! I would not expect great performance from something that small. A "normal" sized telescopic fishing rod would likely do much better. I used to keep a half decent quality two piece fishing rod behind the seat in the truck, so that I could fish wherever I happened to be with a half decent rig. That was still at least 3 feet long, and it sounds like you're trying to go more compact in this scenario. Here's what I have that's more compact. I bring this on the kayak as a spare. I haven't used it much, simply because I always have a better option when I'm fishing. As you can see, it fits in a small tackle box. You could easily take one of these in a backpack without it getting in the way.

Here you go @Jon Henn . I found the website for that little rod in case you want more info on it. https://emmrodfishinggear.com/categories/Spinning-Poles/

@Sean Craig Awesome Sean! That looks like it's more than just a coat rack. Are the hooks for hanging keys?

@Sean Craig And the darker front piece. Is that a box/drawer or a hinged door?
