What kind of clay do you use?
There’s so many clays out there and I used the same one for 10 years before trying something else. What clay are you using? Right now I’m using 3 different Standard Clays: 266 Dark brown, 211 hazelnut, and at school we use 553 buff stoneware. I love the way dark brown looks, but it also gives me the most problems…

I use Laguna B-MIX ^5. It has been good to work with, but there was a change so the most recent bag I opened is different. Per my supplier they could no longer get EPK and had to go to an alternative. I have heard from others that it fires the same but haven’t done my own testing. I can say from the few lbs I’ve thrown with so far it’s wetter and not as pliable as I’m used to it being. It’s also not the creamy whitish color I’m used to, but as long as it fires the same and glazes look the same I can work with it.
Where do you work with clay?
I have two places I can work with clay- either at work(high school ceramics teacher) or at home in my shed/studio. Right now I greatly prefer the school studio because it’s warmer and not in complete shambles. At home I’ve got one broken wheel, a huge mess from painting and renovating, and a max temp of about 60 degrees. At school, there’s a pug mill, great lighting and, just a lot less hassle. We’re on our third snow day in a row so I’ve got to go out to the old shed and warm things up to get some things done and it had me wondering what your space is like. Give us the good and the bad!

I work out of a community studio where I rent a shelf and my home studio, which is small. I prefer the community studio for the availability of more equipment and easier clean up. My home space is very limited but the bigger issue is water, I don’t have a sink in my studio nor do I have traps set up anywhere to catch debris from clean up so I work with buckets of water that I then have to dump outside occasionally.
How do you sign your pots?
For the first time in 9 years I'm changing the stamp that I use for my "maker's mark" It feels a bit strange but I'm excited to have an official Clay with Trey stamp. The change got my wondering how you guys sign your pots? Is it your name or a symbol? Do you carve it or stamp it?

Right now it’s a stamp with my last name. I have been considering switching it up to something that is smaller m. Either just a symbol or initials. Still playing around with ideas and designs. Curious what others use as well.

@Safiya B. The black is a recipe I came up with in a glazing class I took (happy to share) and the colors are all Amaco celedon
Show us your favorite mug!
I love seeing people’s favorite mugs. I think it says a lot about you! I had a really hard time choosing but this mug is by a guy named Andrew Clark and it’s just incredible.
