Chris just turned a $5K project into a $13.5K win — by thinking bigger.
Here's what happened: A client came in asking for a basic 2D glorified slideshow. (You know the type... flat, forgettable, wouldn’t move the needle.) Instead of just taking the brief, @Chris Long pitched them a bigger vision: 👉 A 3D explainer video — dynamic, eye-catching, and way more powerful for their brand. Original budget: $5,000 Final deal: $13,500 Turnaround: 2 weeks — concept to final delivery. And here’s the thing — before joining this community, Chris said he probably would’ve just delivered what they asked for. Now? He’s leading the client. Showing them what’s possible. That’s how you win bigger projects. You can check out the final video here: 🎥 https://vimeo.com/1079498633/9a8f9d4d69?share=copy Reminder: Clients don’t always know what they need. It’s your job to show them. 🚀 Big moves, @Chris Long . Let’s keep it rolling 💪

The amazing kicker here: It was a total WIN-WIN. The client said it was the best video they've ever made and there was an additional $8.5k in my pocket. Thanks for the guidance and encouragement, @Pedro Gajardo

Biggest challenge is the fear that I’m too expensive. Second one for me is pricing for value instead of time + materials. I’m generally working for studios and agencies so the value based pricing model doesn’t seem to work here. Hoping to attract more direct to client work so I can use a value based pricing model

Hey there everyone! My name is Chris. I'm a 34 year old freelance motion design generalist with 10 years of experience in the advertising space. I've worked on A LOT of explainer type of animations over the years and have been sharpening my 3D skills for the past several years and I want to continue to level up my game. I've had a really good run over my career as a freelancer, but work has been slowing for me recently and I'm trying to figure out why. I also don't want to give in to the fear mongering around AI replacing creatives, but I'm also keenly aware of many of the ways this could affect our and industry (and me) in turn. So I want to be a part of a community of like-minded folks who are focus on their growth. I want to inspire and be inspired by all of you as we continue to hone our craft, create great work, and raise the tides for our industry so we can continue to prove our value. I'm super excited to be here and thanks so much to @Pedro Gajardo for creating this space for all of us to connect! Porfolio: https://www.clmotion.com/
