⛏️20 New friends thank you all.👍
We just hit 20 people in the community… and honestly, that means a lot to me.🧘‍♀️🧘 It might not seem like a huge number to some, but to me it’s 20 real people who chose to be here, learn, share, and grow together.📗 I’m really grateful for every single one of you. This isn’t just a group—it’s starting to feel like a solid crew of like-minded people who love the outdoors, prospecting, and just getting out there and doing it.🌲 As we hit this milestone, I want you all to know I’m working behind the scenes on a new field classroom and setting up some workshop days so we can take things to the next level together. Thanks for being here, seriously. This is just the beginning.🙏

🖤Quartz and ????📗
My buddy found this in Boswell bc its quartz with a black-looking oxide or crystal structure. It looks like small granule crystals. Photos only work so much the best way is to have it in hand to test and see what it can be. What do you think it can be???? 🏴 Quartz with black tourmaline (schorl),✅️❎️ Silver lead galena oxidation✅️❎️ iron hematite / magnetite✅️❎️ manganese oxide✅️❎️ graphite✅️❎️ Or some thing els❓️ Will update as i go😃

Seeing if it's magnetic would be a dead give away ! Im going to go with manganese , or very low quality biotite?! Thats a tough one !! Could even be a low quality hornblende?? Keep me updated !!

@Sheldon Evans totally understand !! I've done some exploring myself out that way. Sometimes its hard to tell what a mineral is unless it's in crystal form or super obvious !

🌲Lost, Then Found: A Journey Back to the East Kootenays🌲
I want to take a moment to thank Marta for the live coffee chat and introduction video we did the other day. That conversation honestly sparked something in me—it made me reflect on how my artwork became such a big part of my journey into rocks, nature, and the outdoors. Back in 2012, I was deep into spray paint art—mostly space and nature scenes. At the time, I didn’t fully realize it, but that art gave me a close-up look at what I truly loved… the raw beauty of nature, the universe, and how everything connects. That was the beginning of something bigger for me. Life wasn’t exactly clear back then. I spent years moving around, trying to figure things out. I even lived in Calgary for a couple of years, but deep down, city life never felt right. It just wasn’t me. So in 2015, I made a decision—I went back to the East Kootenays, where it all started. That summer, I lived in my camper with my dog Riddick, out on an old gold claim. I didn’t have a clear plan. I didn’t know where things were going. But for the first time in a long time… I felt free. I felt like myself again. One day, while out walking with Riddick, I found a small piece of quartz crystal on the ground. Nothing crazy—but something about it caught my attention. Instead of just picking it up and moving on, I followed the float uphill. That’s when I saw it—a patch of bright white quartz shining through the ground. And right there… I uncovered a much larger, beautiful crystal.💎 That moment stuck with me. Not just because of the find—but because of what it meant. It reminded me that even when life feels uncertain, or even a little heavy… there’s always something waiting just around the corner. Sometimes you just have to follow the signs, even if they seem small at first. Looking back now, I can honestly say my art played a huge role in all of this. It opened my eyes, grounded me, and helped guide me back to what I truly love. So yeah… even on the hard days, something beautiful can come out of it 🌲 I’d love to hear from you— What’s a moment in your life that stuck with you forever? 👇

I met my fiancee almost 3 and a half years ago. When we first met we had many differences and many interests together. Rockhounding was not one at the time. It wasn't until I moved in and found that she had a rock collection from long before me. I also had some from my youth and we combined our collection together on a shelf. We then joined the local lapidary club and now we spend all our vacations together camping and rock hounding together. Long story short. She is my gem. 💎meeting her led us both into a shared mutual interest or nature , exploring , camping and finding natures gems. Great story from everyone here. Ive really enjoyed my journey so far Just a random scenic picture from our adventures and some fossils we got
