Hi all. With the sad new of @Marty Ware retirement and the hub closing. I decided to make my own. It’s called Home Grown Gardening. Hopefully Marty will join to and visit us there. Thankyou @Leon Raucci .
I love native birds
Not so with the Indian miner. I wish I could have chickens to chase them out. Going to have to put something else in the garden bed to fill the open areas.

Oh dear. I dont have that problem with the miners, but if i put down sugar cane mulch the turkeys can't help themselves. Ive taken to putting rocks randomly throughout the newer planted area to frustrate them. It seems to work. Putting pots in to fill the gaps is a perfect solution.
I Am Announcing My Retirement
I just wanted to let you all know I have decided to retire from Marty's Garden and the online world of gardening. I want to thank everyone for their support over the years. Everyone has been awesome and it's been an amazing journey of over 15 years I will close this account in a couple of days. I recommend that you reach out to any new friends and get their details so you can keep contact with them. Sending lots of love to you all. Marty & Sherly

Hey Marty, Im so sorry to hear this. Selfishly so of course. But I know you need to do what is best for you and for your family. God bless you as you finish up one chapter and move to the next. Thankyou for all the knowledge and inspiration you've generously given. ❤️
Hmmm does it pay to be away with the work.
Just got of the phone with my beautiful bride only to find that when I get back not only do I have to finish my large round garden bale project, but now I have to build some new fencing and a revamp on a chicken coup. Seems I have inherited in my absence a female emu, 2 jersey heifers, 4 alpacas and unknown number of chickens. My only natural response was with my natural sarcasm was. “Was it to difficult to just find a partridge in a pear tree” and yes she knows me well so it was just laughter and time I get to put you to work, god I love my queen.

Mice traps
These pesky little things are chewing through my netting to get into garden beds and then eating the squash, the chillies, the green tomatoes. Even digging under a metal basket ive put over the cos lettuce to eat that as well. I decided im putting way too much effort into feeding the local mice population and needed to try traps as my husband was dead against the poison option due to our dog. Yesterday I bought 6 little traps. Set them up with cheese because I really didnt know what else to use and placed them around inside and outside netted beds. This morning I have 2 traps that were set off (cheese gone and no mice caught), 3 traps still set up with the cheese gone and 1 trap untouched with cheese insitu. Does anyone have any tips on setting up traps? Is there a better option than cheese?

@Vicki Whateley such a good tip. Thankyou!

@Dee Carter thanks. Ive reset the traps and put cheese and peanut butter tonight. It makes sense that the peanut butter is sticky and harder to remove without setting off the trap.
