Man I can’t tell you how grateful I am for this. For years I’ve struggled with getting proper levels typically following guidelines for setting a kick around -6 and bass at -16 or -14 but every time I’d start mixing, my mixbus would start climbing higher until I had clipped. Sometimes I’d grab a gain plugin and low the mixbus but when I got to the mastering phase I had no headroom and my master was smashed to pieces. Over compression in a mix is horrible. Fast forward… To yesterday. I lowered everything by about -13.5 or what is = to -14 or 0vu for my zen go and I thought surely this would be too low. At this point my mix was hitting -8 or -9. I then grabbed another plugin called dbmeter and it showed that my mix was maybe -21 RMS I hit auto and it brought my levels to -5 or -6 dbs and then I could mix freely. Now my master finally sounds like I just recorded it raw no over compression no transient smooshing. I should add that before this I also tried to add a clipper to get my levels Higher it was like climbing an impossible mountain 🏔️ Thank you sir 🙏
