Nurses thought I was a drug dealer [Update on why I've been MIA]
So I just wrapped up a 56 hour "vacation" at the local hospital. And by vacation, I mean being poked, prodded, and woken up every hour by nurses who seemed genuinely shocked I was still alive each time. From swollen lungs, to 02% levels at 80% (normal is about 97% and 86% is get your butt to the ER before you pass out and go into cardiac shock) to white blood cell counts 13,000x higher than average to fight this allergen... it's been wild to say the least! And the food?... Let's just say hospital jello should be classified as a war crime under the Geneva Convention. Anyway, don't be scared for me... Now that we know what this was and why it happened. We already have a plan to make sure it doesn't happen again in the future! The next few days I'll be living in a hotel continuing to monitor my lungs and oxygen levels on my own before returning to the environment that triggered this all... HOME. So that's the basic update for where I've been the last few days. But here's the lesson in all this – while I was lying there, questioning my life choices and wondering if that beeping sound would ever stop, something magical was happening. My business didn't care that I was down for the count. Sales notifications kept pinging on my phone. Leads kept flowing in. Money kept landing in my account. The nurse actually asked if I was some kind of drug dealer because I kept smiling at my phone despite having an IV in my arm. (I assured her it was legal, though the profit margins are surprisingly similar.) This wasn't luck or magic. It was systems. Systems that kept working while I was busy trying to convince the hospital staff that no, I really don't need pain medication, no, I don't think the gown "brings out my eyes." and no, I'm not staying another day... You see... Most people build businesses that are actually just elaborate traps they've set for themselves. Businesses that collapse the second they step away. Digital prisons that require constant attention. Meanwhile, smart business owners build systems that work harder than they do.
