Picking the right REA college
Like most of us, I want to maximise my chances at getting into an ivy early. Only thing is, I’m not a STEM student. In fact, I’m the COMPLETE OPPOSITE (I want to do Theatre and Latin American Studies on a pre-law route) Some schools are just super STEM based (Stanford, MIT etc) So my question is… Do I stand out more applying early for humanities at these STEM based schools, or are they more likely to take STEM students over me? Let me know if you need any more context :) Any help is greatly appreciated!

I'm no admissions officer ( literally a junior in high school), but schools will surely try to pick a diverse selection of students. I genuinely don't think they'll only want stem students, so if there is a certain top university you're looking at , I'd encourage you to go for it
Should I take the SAT again?
I got a 1570 in June on my first SAT. This is good enough in theory, but I’m an international student. At my school, one person has a 1600 and two have 1580s. This means that, in my context, I’m not the best. What’s worse is, my Math score is 25th percentile for most top colleges. Is it worth grinding Math for the 30 point increase? Am I allowed to submit a super score? I’m leaning against it since I apply in November/December so I’m already super busy. Lmk what y’all think.

First of all, 800 on reading is super impressive for intl students. Congrats to you!! And second of all, I'm not admissions officer but I feel like a 1570 is a competitive score, regardless of whether your strength is in R&W or math. Also, at some point, grinding for the extra handful of points isn't worth it considering all the other things you can do with your time, and since you said you're applying soon and are currently busy, I feel like you'll be okay. There won't be any huge difference btwen 1570 and 1600.

Also, lots of colleges(top universities included) accept superscore. There are only 2 that require your entire sat history, that I know of.
How I got an 800 on SAT R&W
In the June SAT I got an 800 on R&W. Here is the best advice I have on that section. I would split it into 2 parts. 1. Technique 2. Words in context The reason I split it like this is because Words in Context are a whole beast of their own. While I would say a large component is luck (because they throw CRAZY words in there sometimes)... There are things you can do to better your chances. I mean, it worked for me! So, in this post I’ll just tackle the second part (i.e. what you can do to get all of the words in context questions right) Step 0: Every SAT question has a strategy. Understanding the strategy is KEY to getting the Q right in the most efficient way possible. For WiC questions, the strategy is the following: i) Cover the options ii) Read the passage with the blank and UNDERSTAND THE CONTEXT! iii) Make a prediction of an appropriate word This strat will guarantee 100% on the WiC questions in section 1 of R&W. The following steps are for section 2, which is when crazy words start popping up. Step 1: Learn the roots & derivations of words. Our language evolved from Latin. Luckily, I had studied Latin, so I knew a lot of these already. But I still had to learn more. The meanings of the roots can give you clues to the meaning. For example, ā€œun-ā€ means ā€œnotā€. Therefore, any word beginning with ā€œun-ā€ will be the opposite of what follows. I accept that that is an easy example, but here’s a link to a ton of roots you can learn: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Dc9hk2-1UI2yEel4ktfQtkwvJy4OXpOwpB9T3XiOmDw/edit?usp=drive_link Step 2: Do LOADS of these questions. If you’re doing the August SAT, you still have time. I didn’t start drilling my WiC questions until the week before (do not recommend) Go on CollegeBoard’s website and do EVERY SINGLE ONE of the WiC Qs in the question bank. For every one you get wrong, find the true meaning of the word, write the word in a Quizlet, and test yourself on them every day.

Do you think it's worth the time commitment to try and memorize roots/words for the wic questions? I'm taking the the Sept sat, so not much time left until then, but studying wic can definitely help. I'm around ~1500 for context

Any September sat takers?
Priorities
How do you guys choose what extracurriculars to pursue and what not to? Would you choose an activity you've been doing since elementary school over a recent passion project you started or vice versa? Going into my Jr year, I'm in a pickle and need to figure out how to manage my priorities and time, but I really do enjoy all that I do, it's not easy to choose what to pick. How have yall gone about making decisions like these?

@Athithi Prakash more of the latter. It could be argued that I'm over committed, but I picked a select handful of things and pursued them but now I'm at the point where I need to spend my time towards the more important and relevant ecs. The problem is that I don't want to give up my other ecs
