Do you make money with music?
Hey everybody! I want to get a conversation going here. It’s been a little quiet, and we have people all across the globe here who are interested in Audio Engineering!! Let’s learn from each other and get to know one another! My question is this: Do you make money with music? If so, what’s the biggest part of your income?; Weddings? Sports? Conferences? Festivals? Bar gigs? Studio work? Mixing or mastering? Myself, I make most of my living by doing live sound at weddings, corporate events, and playing in bands on festivals, weddings, and in bars. I have other smaller income streams through lessons, mixing/mastering, and consultation. What do you do??? What’s been the most profitable area of your business? And if you’re not making money yet, what’s in the way? What would need to happen for you to make this a full time job? Can’t wait to hear from you all. I hope you’re having a great day! ~Jon

I agree with much of what Mariana says. I worked for audio companies where you had to set up, take down, operate equipment, and if you were lucky, make a living. Having learned so much (from the bad experiences) from these companies and how they operate, I started wanting to add more value to my work. It was very difficult to find a place where my work is properly valued. I've been working at the theater in my city for about a year now, and only recently have I started getting paid well for each job. It was hard, but I think it's also about finding people who want to work in the right way and professionally. And of course, that comes with getting paid.

@Jon Wyatt Hi Jon, sorry for the late reply. I'm studying sound engineering and have been working in live sound for about a year now, since I started getting jobs with companies in my city. I realized that I really enjoy this field and that I need to learn a lot more to continue performing at the level I've been at, so I started a university degree in audiovisual engineering in my city, which is where I can more or less continue developing my skills academically while working on my own projects.
