3 contributions to The Brand Is Strong
Intro & Homework
Hi! I’m Brieana. I have been wanting to film content for years, and then I suddenly had to be the face of a brand and realized that I wanted to make my vision come to life, and not just for work. My brand is ofplantsandprose …because I love plants and I love books. (It’s an older name!). My Why: I really have been trying to get off my phone and share things I’m excited about that aren’t work in general, especially after dealing with a vicious bout of burnout (and sickness) this year. I wanted to feel passionate about things that weren’t also tied to my employer. So My Why has definitely been trying to enjoy hobbies and connect with people about them, even beyond my general scope. I’ve really loved cozy content creators who “feel” like they could be your friends chatting (though I understand they’re not with the whole parasocial thing!), and I like the idea of being someone that people can go to when they’ve had a long day to just listen to about work or things they can recommend. (Or, honestly, to affirm that we all go through some things!) My Pillars: Authentic, Connectivity, Cozy. I want to give recommendations and build out my community of hobbies to share to people, and, again, be that person people go to to for nerdy conversations. Content: I’m only on Instagram for now (though I’ve taken my username on Youtube!). I have a few things I’m really proud of: Female Led Books after the you watch the Odyssey. I also went viral with the Netflix Documentary Trend for Plants. I'm glad I did it because it got me in front of a lot of people, but I didn't want to try and make a habit of only doing trending things!!

@Franchesca Ramsey Thank you for your kind words and insight! Part three was the section I was really excited for when I signed up for this course. Even in planning, I sometimes struggle to fully execute so I can have a content build up without getting burnt out, so I can't wait to get to it. Love the course so far, and can't wait to continue!

@Suset Laboy Thank you for watching!! I need to get off my butt and do a second video for a couple of the ones I've filmed, but for Hera, I would recommend Hera by Jennifer Saint!
Intro & Week 1 Homework
Homework Hi y’all! I’m Hayley & I’m so happy to be here! My Brand is better known as Sad Beige & I find most people don’t know my real name so I’m including both 😂 I guess in that sense the Brand IS Strong. Much like the leopard print, I get tagged in EVERYTHING beige. My Brand’s Why: I love creating funny, authentic content that goes beyond a good knee-slap; I like creating comedy & poetry that points to things & concepts larger than myself in order to push people to dig into trends & consumer habits & really interrogate stuff. I like making creative pieces that wedge themselves in people’s brains and that make people THINK. My 3 Brand Pillars: ETA because I’m a comedian and writer, my topics tend to vary, so I’ve gone with more Vibes than Content-Specific pillars, because I like to be open-ended & I’m trying to steer myself OUT of a box. Even though algorithms love a box, haha. - Earnest — I can’t help it so might as well lean into it! I’ve climbed Cringe Mountain enough to get to the point where I’m comfortable being the earnest person I am online, without apology. I own it. I’m earnest! - Open — I never want to act like if people don’t get something that they should be embarasssd. I’m a librarian IRL so that’s a core value for me. My ethos is very much “not everyone knows everything & asking is GOOD” — this also means I’m open to being wrong and changing my mind about things. - Funny With a Conscience  — Because I write about silly and serious things, I take care to be mindful of what’s joke material, and what isn’t. Likewise, I try to support causes I believe in with my work, a rising tide lifts all boats etc. - Branding: you’d think it would be beige, but I just cannottttt. Since my book came out I’ve been using a lot of sage green to go with its style but I’m not married to it and I find myself gravitating towards grass green more. But then I launched my clothing website with buttercup & purple so maybe I steer into that…. I admit this is hard for me simply because of how I film content — in my car before work. But!! That’s why I’m here! To level up & do things like plan ahead!

I loved this poetry! Really haunting and poignant. Also this is a little silly, but even in her lectures, Francesca has mentioned about how the algorithm likes something, and and I'm glad you're able to pivot. I love that you're leaning more into the poetry and that your diversifying the colors of your content (Also I personally love sage green! but I think the variety would be nice and a fun contrast to the beige!)
homework & intro
My name is iyla a. stebbins (pronounced like "eye-luh"; I also use they/she pronouns). I'm a director, producer, actor, and more, and I am absolutely thrilled to be here. I was told the fancy name to use is "multi-hyphenate artist," but no matter what hat I am wearing on a project, my brand's pillars are to entertain people, promote the quality performance art in Detroit and the surrounding Michigan cities (also sometimes beyond since I am from the East Coast), and inspire people to carry the social justice themes of the show "beyond the script" to provoke actionable change in their community. I graduated with my MFA in Theatre Management from Wayne State University in Detroit, MI, in May, where I led marketing campaigns for live theatre. In that role, I ran the theatre and dance department's social media account for three years. I had fun creating content about the different shows, and I have grown confident managing a brand for an organization/project/other people, but as soon as I think about opening a website for myself or putting effort into marketing MYSELF as a brand, my brain meets me with debilitating insecurity and anxiety. The perfectionist side of me is useful in my 9-5, but I've found it really stunts my ability to promote my personal creative work. Recently, I completed my first self-produced post-grad project, MACBITCHES by Sophie McIntosh, and received a lot of positive feedback on the production's overall marketing. Below are links to the "trailers" we shot for the play and promoted on my social media. https://www.instagram.com/reel/DbjhtpaOGje/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&stkn=MzRlODBiNWFlZA== https://www.instagram.com/reel/Dc1KM-Gu-D-/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&stkn=MzRlODBiNWFlZA== https://www.instagram.com/reel/Dcbk06pu-3X/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&stkn=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==

Truly creating content is so much fun but also I definitely get into my own head about it! Your note on the perfectionism is so true. I started forcing myself to create and post things I didn't love (or, if I'm being honest, with no make up on!) to make myself comfortable with something not being perfect. But your post grad project looks amazing!!! And congrats on your press reviews!
